Because music can objectively be good or bad.
Just because YOU like it doesn't make it good or bad, but the way someone makes music reflects talent, effort and creativity, if it sounds like shit and you like it, it still is shit.

Having said that, here's what I think you should consider when forming an opinion about music - is music made for the sole purpose of being sold aka is it just a product, technical capabilities of musicians, lyrics, cultural impact, innovation and pioneering a new genre of music, new uses for different instruments.

Yeah, this is the point. These pretentious reviewers are appealing to a crowd who just listen to their word as bond. Just look at how sharply Fantano can change the opinion of an album within this niche group of people. It seems like there's nothing more to this than making yourself feel better than the average person because you have some sort of fake higher taste, while in reality you're still using other people's opinion to validate your own.

For the most part, the more popular music is the better it should be. The only exception is music that doesn't immediately grab peoples attention but given time can sound decent.

Good music doesn't get "stale".

I think the idea is more that the more music you consume and the broader you make your horizons, that top 40 pop isn't as appealing anymore. This isn't saying that top 40 pop is shit as music, just that if you're the type of person that likes to expand on their hobbies and taste, when you experience a big and deep range of music, you generally start to like it less and less because you see that it's fairly one dimensional. Above all, just listen to music that you enjoy, and always search for more.
