Hey /mu/. I don't really visit this board, but I'm not really sure where else to ask about this. But let me just start with this: Does any of you guys play drums?
>>
What is a hi-hat?
>>
>>69444762
Okay, I guess I'll just go fuck myself then.
>>
Drummers general? Drummers general.
>>
I should take some drumming lessons
>>
Is drum tab written out on a normal stave
>>
>>69444862
yeah, usually called drum charts though.
>>
>>69444888
Some people call lead sheets 'charts'
>>
>>69444842
You're better off learning by yourself for a while. The first few months are simply excercises to build limb independence and various muscle memory
>>
>>69445117
Buy the rubber practice pads then? I could go to the practice studio and use their set
>>
>>69445154
That or just a cheap electronic kit.

If you're serious about learning you can get a fairly decent sounding one for a few hundred bucks.
>>
>>69445154
>>69445191
Electric kit is best IMO for starting out. for just snare, pads can be helpful but if you want to learn full-kit drumming you should invest in an electric if ur not down to drop big $$$.
>>
>>69445191
I can't make noise where I live, I'll go to the practice studio
How do drum sticks work? Variation in cost and woods for different styles? Best manufacturers? Thank you
>>
Sorry to hijack but month ago one of my friends decided to get drums while drunk. He thought me and one other guy would play with him, but holy shit he's just so goddamn awful and unwilling to practice in his free time so I have to suffer playing Seven Nation Army for 2 hours while he's not able to use both his hands at the same time. Should I just tell him to sell the drums? Really don't feel like dealing with this shit.
>>
Shit, well, I was only wondering if I should get the acoustic or electronic for a complete beginner, and I see a few people mention electronic is good for starting out, but will I have any problem transitioning to acoustic, because I saw people on the internet mention that the feel is entirely different. Also, noise is a problem for me as I don't have an isolated space for drums. And one more thing about electronic drums; which brand? In my country, there seems to be a selection of Alesis frums, but then I see people say Alesis is shit and I should go Roland or Yamaha. Does it even matter if I'm a complete beginner?

>I can't make noise where I live
How bad is your situation?

I own an electric kit in a shared house with 7 people. I use a standard mat, shock absorber for the kick pedal and get no complaints as long as I don't play at unreasonable hours.
>>
>>69445813
I can't turn on a guitar amplifier comfortably. I've helped people a lot around here (called the ambulance when they crashed, sorted out their broken mail boxes, fixed the communal windows, got the main locks changed when it broke, got the boundary fixed to stop them getting robbed, etc) but it is a very miserablist community :/

Again any recs on sticks please /dg?
>>
>>69445766
>the feel is entirely different

Yeah the feel is different. Kinda in a good way though, your snare and tom rolls will be a lot more precise from practicing on a smaller kit. The rubber cymbals feel shit though even on more expensive kits, transitioning to a real hi-hat or ride will take some getting used to.

>>69446098
Sticks are just sticks man. The more expensive they are the longer they'll last. 5A is the all purpose width but if you're playing particularly heavy stuff go for a B.
>>
>>69446263
>Sticks are just sticks man. T
Lighter sticks don't give you a different sound or play faster??? Stiff vs. Supple woods?
>>
>>69444822
It's this mad thing where you need to 'talk' to one another to get a conversation going
>>
>>69446346
Sure there are subtleties in stick tip form/coat and the wood they're made from, but you shouldn't worry about that stuff as a beginner. Cheap standard sticks will do just fine.

Don't forget the drums are an instrument based entirely on dynamics, everyone is different and you'll only learn what suits you best from experience.

>>69446501
Right

Slow solid non-fussy jazz ballad. Rec me kit, sticks, chair, uniform please /dg

>>69445589
>he's even worse than Meg White
>>
>>69446460
Sorry, I thought he was fucking with me, like I said, I don't visit this board, mostly just /v/, /tv/ and sometimes /b/ and that's just 24/7 shitposting central. But here >>69445766 was my question, some of it was answered allready.
>>
Gonna lose the topic :/

Drummer here ama
>>
About to start taking lessons and planning on getting a drum kit. I live in a 3 story apartment, do you think it'd be feasible to put the kit in the basement with mutes and not get evicted? (I live on the first floor)
>>
ok
