I have no idea, but there was a brief time in 2011-2012 that indie-ish music could chart. I guess it was backlash to the club misic of the late 2000s. Also check out Gotyes albums
I would just like to point out that Peter Gabriel also has a bunch of multiplatinum records and won a ton of meaningless industry awards. I'm not sure your average normie /understood/ him, but they certainly liked him.
