that's not even the best swans album from the 90's. in fact it might be the worst. soundtracks is a directionless mess that's 75% pointless filler. people just like it because it's eclectic. but weird=/=good. there's no sense of unity or cohesion on there and there's so many "dude so random lol" moments.

pic related is the best 90's swans
>>
>>69327587
Children Of God is Swans at their most Uncreative.
Boring 70 minutes of music that was already done by other artist. But better.

Also. It's not even 90's.
>>
>>69327587
CoG is amazing and probaly their best but it is not 90's
>>
>>69327744
>Also. It's not even 90's.
oh shit i could have sworn it was. oh well. how was it uncreative? it's much more creative than their one-dimensional early material. not to say that it's bad, but it's all drawn from the same exact simplistic idea. slow, heavy, atonal thudding. children of god takes that repetitive, minimalist approach to songwriting and does it within the context of more melodic and dynamic post-punk/goth rock music. sure it was inspired by the cure/bauhaus/joy division/etc., but it's still undeniably swans doing what swans do.
>>
>>69327587
I know two people already told you that Children of God isn't from the 90's, but I'm also here to tell you that Children of God isn't from the 90's.

Best 90's Swans coming through

What are your thoughts. Throw them at me, go on. I can take it.
>>
>>69327744
>already done by other artist.
Literally who
>>
>>69320448
>half the album is literally filler
>best album of the 90s
I mean fuck I like Swans but you can't be serious. White Light From the Mouth of Infinity and The Great Annihilator blow that album out of the water.
>>
>>69328078
Why are people saying it has a lot of filler?
Short or not. A lot of these tracks are well developed and unique.
Not going to act like its filler-less (of course not)
But i don't get how people can act it's full of useless filler?
>>
>>69328769
Because they're impatient children and only like tracks like Helpless Child and The Sound, and all the rest of it is just uninteresting noise to them.
>>
>>69328908
>>69328769
>i like to listen to an hour and a half of pointless, undeveloped synth textures and random found samples
>you just don't get it

there is no concept or context to justify the random noises that make up the majority of the album. there's nothing to get. it's just trite weirdness for the sole purpose of coming off as being avant garde.

in reality it's just a half-baked collage of 2deep4u garbage, and you're a total elitist poser.
>>
>>69320448
For sure. Spiderland maybe comes close among a few other works of the 90s, but SFTB is it and honestly one of the GOATs. Within it's own genre of music there's no other album that takes advantage of so many different sounds and puts it together into one collage. Even music within the "sound collage" genre doesn't work with this much timbre/different influences. Outside of its genre and for music as a whole you get a pretty good all encompassing example of what popular music has done since the 50s. Beatles? Pink Floyd? Radiohead? Nah they restricted their track formats to mostly just western pop when popular music as a whole has done so much more. You get to see it all (or at least as much as possible) in the one work that is SFTB. It's all the more fitting that the album varies itself in rhythms and timbre rather than complex melodies or harmonic patterns that's more a sign of music of the past rather than post-1950s music. Filler cannot possibly exist with an album that has its themes so closely tied and its music based on versatility in timbre. Even the sometimes hates Yum Yab killers is essential to the whole work in that regard by demonstrating the most primitive, tribal, and punk-like offering on the album.

>>
>>69328769

lmao that better describes The Great Annihilator. Soundtracks just appeals to the hipster avant-teen crowd. Listen to Swans beyond the /mu/core albums you fucks.
>>
>>69329110
>SFTB
>undeveloped synth textures
>not tape loops
Not even that guy, but there isn't a more apt example of you not getting it. Not to mention it's not supposed to be some kind of avant garde mess since Gira himself talks about putting together all these loops that he just has on him together in a way that works rather than some attempt at being avant garde.
>>
>>69329110
>>you just don't get it

imply that?
Don't be so triggered.

>Soundtracks just appeals to the hipster avant-teen crowd

Apparently Somebody hasn't taken their own advice.
>>
>>69329203
i was more responding to that other anon.

>>69329175
idgaf about the source of the shitty monotonous sounds. the point is that there is no point, and the fact that gira said that himself just makes it even more shitty and pretentious.

you guys have fun forcing yourself to "like" something just because it's experimental. in reality there's little to no artistic merit, and absolutely no musical merit on the majority of SFTB.
>>
>>69329232
Those albums appeal to the grindcore crowd. I mean yeah Filth gets a lot of critical hype but Cop? Are you serious? Cop was just Gira angry, nothing more to that. I was referring to the overlooked early 90's era you twat.
>>
>>69329268
It's not even experimental though. Putting together various bits of tape together has been a thing since...50s? Maybe earlier? Not to mention the rest of your post is just shit you're pulling out of your ass without giving any context or points to validate it in any way so it's just useless. Might as well be grateful we are still responding to you because you sound like a troll with the lack of substance you have on you.
>>
>>69329413
you remind me of me like 4 years ago. i bet you don't even know music theory. go be a philistine somewhere else you tryhard pleb.
>>
>>69329413
>It's not even experimental though.
I don't know how you define the word experimental, but last time i checked, experimental doesn't mean completely original. If you don't think that STFTB is experimental, then you need to go outside and re-integrate yourself into normal society for a little bit. Either way, you're shitting all over that anon for not having an argument, while you haven't even bothered to say why you think it's so great.
>>
>>69329507
Pointless shit talking, why even bother to post something? You didn't even do it in a funny way.

>>69329653
>experimental doesn't mean completely original
Yeah, and neither the idea of putting loops together nor post-rock was new at the time. For sure I personally think it's among the best in that realm of music, but not entirely original nor experimental as it is ambitious. Just because something feels like it's a tougher listen than what is the norm musically doesn't make something experimental either (I am going to imply you mean this "definition" based on your post). Sgt Peppers is a relatively easy listen but also highly experimental. Same goes for Dark Side Of The Moon.

I already posted >>69329129 as to why I am personally all about SFTB.
