Hey pals, on the week before Christmas, we're going to do some listenalongs, we haven't decided on the time we'll be doing them yet, and we still have a lot of time to edit the albums we're listening to if anyone has any objections to them. We will likely be doing these listenalongs on a site like plug.dj or wavelength.fm.

If anyone has any suggestions for the times we'll be doing them, say so, so we can get as many people who want to listen in as we can.
>>
>>69303059
Oh, other than that, it's /shugazi/ like usual.

Ok, a few months ago on /shugazi/ some guy posted an album called Vox Comp by a band called Zide and said it was from 1993. I have searched online and have found no mention of it anywhere other than a few posts on /mu/. I listened to it and it doesn't sound old or anything. It's kind of mediocre, so it's probably some guys shitty band that he tried to shill. However, it is driving me crazy thinking if there is more to this. Does anyone know anything about it?

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Shoegaze, is in fact, Rock/Shoegazing, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, Rock plus Shoegazing. Shoegazing is not a genre unto itself, but rather another component of a fully functioning music scene made useful by Britpop, reverb/delay and vital distortive effects comprising a full style as defined by NME.
Many guitarists play a modified version of Rock every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of Rock which is widely used today is often called “Shoegaze”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the Rock scene developed by the My Bloody Valentine project. There really is a Shoegaze, and these people are playing it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Shoegaze is the texture: the layer in the composition that allocates the guitar's tones alongside the other instruments that you play with. The texture is an essential part of a band, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete group. Shoegaze is normally used in combination with the Rock genre: the whole system is basically Rock with Shoegazing added, or Rock/Shoegazing. All the so-called “Shoegaze” subgenres are really distributions of Rock/Shoegazing.

I would say they definitely flirt with doomgaze, a la The Angelic Process, but it's definitely coming from a place that's heavily rooted in early shoegaze
>>
>>69352295
Sure there are times where they're heavy, but never really focused on the ambiguity of the guitar sound in a way that is similar to any other shoegaze

Guys, completely new to /mu/ and shoegaze in general. Please don't hate me, but I'm just a normie who used to listen to progressive house. But now I discovered shoe gaze and it's amazing.

Problem is that I feel so overwhelmed since there are so many charts, so many albums to go through. Will I get used to it over time?

And do you guys download or stream?
>>
>>69389871
Also what is the difference between shoegaze and dream pop?

And how would you classify Cigarettes After Sex? I like their music, too. Any similar bands?
>>
>>69389896
shoegaze and dream pop have a lot of overlap but shoegaze is more about being guitar-centric and dream pop i guess is more of a mood thing.
>>
>>69389871
>>69389896

Shoegaze is a rock subgenre characterized by heavy use of reverb/distortion pedals and whispery vocals. You could call it "dream rock," if you wanted. Dream pop has the dreamy bit but it's not rock, it's not guitar-centric.

I'm a pleb who streams where he can, but a lot of shoegaze is not available on any streaming services. Most of what I want that I can't stream I can get through the sharethreads or the like.

Define "progressive house"

Also there's a couple charts posted in here already, I'd suggest the one that starts with the Big 3 then branches out from there, but you don't really have to follow any if you don't want to– they're more just good pointers to try stuff out

said, sometimes people will share downloads. Otherwise I just find google search to find music blogs where people share stuff in a similar way. Unfortunately a lot of filesharing services aren't very reliable and a lot of old links get taken down.

said, search the /mu/ archive for most reliable downloads. Otherwise you could find a torrent tracker or sharpen your google skills

Well, a minute ago it used to be what.cd.. now it's gone, jpopsuki is good for japanese shoegaze tho.

Now passtheheadphones has the lead but they don't let anyone in, and then there's apollo but they're pretty much shit at everything and ppl are doing bunch of stupid shit to it.

your best bet is nostream, but they're currently closed due to the admin fucking up, and lots of people lost trust about the site soo, i'd rather wait.
