Why do people talk more about The Smile Sessions than the 2004 "Brian Wilson Presents Smile" ?
Are The Smile Sessions better ?
Didn't even know BWPS existed
>>
Both are really great albums. Often people here like to pretend that BWPS is nowhere near as good as TSS, but it's pretty close. BWPS has seamless transitions between a lot of the tracks and the instruments are more clear. Also it adds some extra vocal parts that fill out some of the less finished songs. Old Brian sounds a bit off on the softer songs, but does a good job for the most part. Its the second highest rated album on metacritic

i listened to some of it, it's pretty great indeed

What happened with the lyrics for Good Vibrations though ?
I thought the ones on TSS were way better and the ones here are pretty mediocre, not liking this version at all

They are the original lyrics that were scrapped

His voice really did change. Compare to the original smile sessions & it's almost a different person. They're both great, but it's better to listen to the original recordings. Just personal preference really.

TSS has the vocals of Brian Wilson in the 60s. BWPS has the vocals of Brian Wilson in the 2000s.
>>
Too bad there isn't a BWPS version with young Brian's voice, that'd make it flawless

This is the closest I could find, Anon.

AlternateBrianWilson Presents Smile > Smile Sessions > BWPS
>>
Because the SMiLE sessions is a more accurate depiction of the album at the time Brian Wilson envisioned it.

I kinda preferred the ambience of the lyricless tracks on the "third movement" to be honest, so personally I think TSS is the superior choice (also Brian's voice haven't aged well), still both are worth hearing, I think.

Like, it's SMILE, you know. The underlying work, irrespective of minut changes, still holds up.
