OPN just released an "Official master tape cassette rip" of eccojams on his store

http://pointnever.bigcartel.com/product/chuck-person-s-eccojams-vol-1

Will it sound much better? Will someone dare to take the plunge and put it on mega for all of us?
>>
I don't know anything about music technically, how would this differ in sound if at all from the previous release?
>>
Really interested to hear how it'll sound
>>
I have the cassette. Still haven't listened to it and I'm too afraid to play it on my nakamichi. This rip will do.
>>
>>69216837
I bought it
Sounds the sound
>>
>>69216956
can you upload mate?
>>
>>69216922
cassette rips especially can create some hefty artifacting, the rip i have for eccojams now is pretty good though so i can't imagine this is gonna blow our minds or sound too different
>>
pls upload i need this RIGHT NOW
>>
>>69216837
do physical copies of this exist for sale? Or did I miss the boat

Cheers bruv
>>
>>69217490
thank you famalam
>>
this is much faster and pitched up than the old cassette rip I had
>>
>>69219174
The original cassette rip was from a deck with a bad belt or something.

There is a fan remaster (asterite edition) where the tracks were pitched perfectly using tracks from OPN's bandcamp and the Memory Vague DVD as reference. I have just checked the asterite version and the pitches are identical to this official version.
>>
>>69219174
>>69219401
Yeah, the "original" rip is dogshit. Asterite version is the definitive IMO, though I've yet to listen to this.

Does anyone else's Asterite edition have a broken cue file? I could never split the .flac because of it, and have been listening to the 320 instead.
>>
>>69219401
Actually, double checking, the asterite edition is just pitched down just a tiny bit more than this new version. It is much quieter though.

Essentially I'd say this this version on OPN's site is the definitive version simply as it is Dan's own remaster from the original cassette and is a proper lossless version (the asterite edition has some tracks taken from lossy sources).

Here are the release notes for the asterite edition if anyone is interested:

http://pastebin.com/AufiicPH

I'll upload the FLAC for the official version in a few minutes, watch this space.
>>
>>69219535
I've got the split FLAC asterite edition, I'll upload after the official FLAC.
>>
This one's different to the original OPN tracks (memory vague/blue drive) and both versions of Eccojams, wtf have we been hearing it wrong this whole time?
>>
>>69219612
>>69219629
Thanks man, you're a hero.

After quickly comparing both of them a bit, I'm still leaning towards Asterite but I'm probably biased as fuck because I've listen to that dozens of times
>>
Another year and you'll be happy...
>>
just bought it and it sounds delicious
>>
I appreciate that he doesn't charge differently for different formats like AE on the bleep store
>>

>>
>>69220182
That's because people, including producers, completely misunderstand the technical details behind Eccojams. Many vaporwave producers based their whole career on misinterpreting this one album, thinking it's just old song loops with reverb.
>>
>>69220842

Dude it could be done by a retard wake up

It's nuffin
>>
>>69220915
Nope. Try it yourself. He actually adds several other subtle layers over the samples.
>>
So are there any real noticeable differences between the new rip and the fan made one?
>>
>>69220953

A such post actually implies that the autor is knowing what he's talking about, you know.

I don't fuddle around with samples anymore, I'm not 12 lmao

>>
>>69221062
Yeah, compared to Asterite it's pitched up slightly, MUCH louder and mixed very differently. The low-mids and low frequencies are heavier. However considering this an official remaster approved by Dan himself it should now be the reference.

I personally like the Asterite Edition a lot more.

>>
>>69221326
>>69221371
maybe muddy was the wrong word

i'm a/b'ing A3 right now and it's like the official version has a midrange bandpass on it. listen to the kicks in the Be Real segment and you'll see what i mean, there's no "oomph" at all, and the top end is totally lifeless

it's hard to believe that a teenage tumblr user did a better mastering job than two engineers in a professional studio
>>
>>69221399
Shit, I see what you mean now.
>>
>>69221326
uh oh

i cant tell when people are being serious or contrarian or sarcastic on this anymore
>>
wake me up when Commissions III drops
>>
>>69221371
bonus hint: it doesn't sound better just because it's louder

>>69221467
yeah, i'm glad someone else realises too. it's pretty frustrating since this is now the definitive version

i'm going to stick with the asterite version for now

>>69221542
it's definitely not clearer.
>>
>>69221571
Could it be fixed with EQ'ing?
>>
Someone should tweet Dan and tell him his remaster sounds like ass
>>
>>69221603
you could give it a go, sure. at the end of the day, if it sounds good to you that's what matters

although i'd advise finding different source to EQ rather than this new remaster, maybe a different tape rip. you can't effectively boost frequencies that have already been cut
>>
>>69221681
This.

I mean, I was already happy with Asterite but this is just disappointing.
>>
VERDICT: IT'S SHIT
>>
it's def. a lot faster, specially A3, it also sounds cleaner
>>
>>69221918
it probably sounds cleaner compared to other rips but next to the asterite version its a piece of shit

I-I liked the slower and lower pitched A3 more.
>>
>>69222025
you can hear the layering much, much better on this version. it's also less harsh on the ears. i like it, but i agree that pitch is a bit weird
>>
Angel, please don't go.
>>
>>69216837
Fucking finally
>>
>>69216837
I find it strange that he stuck to the fan titles and even their start and end points which made no fucking sense (Why does A3 indclude 2 fucking tracks for example).
I remember the Asterite version having it's own titles based on the lyrics and names on his youtube channel
>>
>>69217082
Protip:
1) Take a basic blank unmarked tape
2) Rip the album to cassette
3) Print out the cassette cover

There, you pretty much have the exact same tape from the original 100.

The music isn't taken seriously at all
It's now become a "Scene" while before it was pretty much anonymous and was entirely about the music and visuals

I basically am retarded over this album. I have heard it a good 200 times in my life. I can tell you right now that this remaster is fucking laughable. It is probably the most pathetic sounding thing I have ever heard in my entire life. I am so fucking mad. I have hated every release since R+7. Its like the love out of his music has gone and he has become a money hungry jew. The best release of this is the cassette one and I have heard all of the releases multiple times. The asterite version misses quite a few things of the original release but it is a really good release. This mastered version is basically remastered from one of the cassettes it sounds like. Its poorly remastered. Lopitan is only doing it so he can get more money. All his music now is fucking shit. I can tell he genuinely had fun and no pressure while making Eccojams and that is what makes it and Replica such great albums. Him getting more popular is the worst thing that happened to him. He will never make another good release again.

Yes. It is the cassette Scan Strawberry Illuminati made. The one that is there is the Asterite Version. As I mentioned it is a good version of the album but due to it being fan made it misses a few of the things that I pick up on from the original release. As >>69225706 said. heard this album for the first time in late 2010 or early 2011, and the only version of it online at that point was just two ~27 min tracks (side a/side b)

i didn't realize people had split it into tracks, created track names etc for it until my ipod died (rip) and i had to download it again - that version wasn't exactly how i remembered it

to me that original rip will be the trve eccojams, but maybe that's the moral here - there is room for all the eccojams. just listen to the one you like the most and let everyone else listen to their favorite

(and if anyone has the 2 track version from back in the day plz mega or zippy) :^)
>>
>>69225898
So apparently all of them sound slightly faster than the rip I had. Wow, I've listened to this thing countless times and it wasn't correct.

I'm kind of torn. After a quick listen, I like some tracks better from Asterite (A2, B4), meanwhile in my opinion A5 on Asterite edition sounds like crap, but sounds good on the Strawberry Illuminati rip. Official version sounds somewhat too clean, and at the same time too... low-fi? I dunno, something to do with layering.

because rather than being a dubbed cassette, this is the singke original cassette the album was mastered (recorded?) on. If it was actually mastered with cassette and no digital imterfacing, this is the only physical master copy that can ever exist.
>>
>>69224642
This. Basically no album past 2012 is interesting. Even then, only the actual pioneers understood how to work the genre anyway. Skeleton, Vektroid, Internet Club, Ferraro and some other anonymous early projects were fucking godtier.

Nice, the whole thing is a bit faster though right? I'll probably still listen to the old one as well still, since I'm so used to it. I think it being a bit slower is cool
>>
The thing that pisses me off is that there are so many releases of this shit that i don't even know which one is the right one. The first one i downloaded sounded great but then someone posted a slightly faster version that was the actual real one. So i downloaded and songs like A2 sounded like shit. Now i see 2 releases i didn't knew before. What the fuck?
>>
>>69235046
Just get the Asterite Edition and forget about everything else.
>>
Never got around to getting this. Between Strawberry Illuminati's cassette rip, the Asterite edition, and this new remaster, which should I get?
>>
>>69235215
asterite
>>
>>69235229
But people keep saying that it's too clean? Like it's not as authentic sounding as the cassette, but still better than the new remaster.
>>
>>69235284
"authentic" is such a stupid descriptor. and anyway, considering asterite was made with 100% digital sources from sunsetcorps and curatorial club as references, i'd say that it's certainly the most """authentic"""

just listen to them and find out for yourself which one you prefer

why does /mu/ need to be spoonfed everything fuck

hi Lopitan
>>
>>69225585
I just downloaded and listened to this and it's almost identical to the remaster. Every track has the same duration as this one and they all start exactly at the same time. I'm pretty sure this rip was used for the remaster. The remaster's just much louder with less hiss.

always gives me a laff

just downloaded that zip file and am listening to it now.
is it seriously just ither songs drenched in fx and looped in spots?
I'm digging the vibe but I am just trying to wrap my head around this project/
>>
>>69235492
Sad!
>>
>>69236693
Are you new here?
>>
>>69236761
just new to this album
>>
>>69236799
That kind of makes you new here, man.

To answer your question though, yes, it is. There really isn't anything deeper to it, rather than it's just a guy having fun looping old songs to create a new feeling and put them into a new context. It gives a new life to these played-out chart toppers in a refreshing, idiosyncratic way.

THAT'S WHAT I SAID!
I knew that autist faggot was full of shit.
>>
>>69231476
Not sure. Might be the strawberry illuminati rip.

I used to listen to the Asterite Edition, it being the best at the time, but the cunt who uploaded it to youtube took it down. I've had the lossless for ages with custom track names so I'm most familiar with that.
>>
>>69231476
>>69237536
Also that video title is a lie. That is way slower than the normal speed.
>>
>>69237536
Could you do me a huge favour and upload the lossless Asterite with the track names? The other link in this thread is the untitled/mixed tracklisting, and as I said yesterday, my cuesheet is corrupt.

That would be fantastic sir
>>
>>69238192
This cuesheet is corrupt as well.

>no hiss removal
I like this, actually. It adds to the quality and experience of the album. It was clearly intended to be listened to via a cassette/tape player so it's kind of a necessary quality.
>>
>>69239778
But all good tape decks have Dolby noise removal anyway, and you'd be an idiot not to have it switched on. Not sure where you're coming from here
>>
>>69239778
I really don't get the impression that it was his grand vision to hear it via cassette considering he only made 100 and just digitally released it.
>>
>>69228416
If this thread is dead by then (likely), I'll drop it as a ghost post on the RBT archive version of this thread.

stealthy, i like it
