Classical music is so evidently superior to all other kinds of music, yet we keep lowering the standards when we talk about other types of music, to avoid the uncomfortable situation where the butt rock dude or the druggy EDM boy gets anal pained when they are told the great masters are better than their shitty hedonistic hero.

Instead of white guilt, in the music world there is "classical" guilt. We keep lowering the standards for other kinds of music to compensate and preserve our dream of marxist culturalism. Of perfect musical relativism. Guess what? It isn't true and the compositional talent and imagination displayed, which is all that counts in the end when we have to say what is worth being saved and what not, is infinitely superior in classical music than in any other form of music.

If your shitty pop muzak is an 8 what the fuck are Beethoven's late string quartets? a 400? most music is barely a 1 to 3, the Beatles fall in here and so do most other popular music with very few exceptions that reach a 4, even a 5. Bartok string quartets would be a 6, 2 degrees of magnitude higher you have works by Brahms and other great masters. Then 9 and 10 are reserved for the highest achievements of human race like Beethoven's late string quartets or his Missa Solemnis or Mass in B minor by Bach or his Brandenburg Concertos.

its boring tho

IMO rating music and generally objectifying it as you have in your post isn't good. You may find you're in the mood for pop music sometimes, instead of classical music. It isn't to say classical music isn't possibly better (I think it is too) but to find such importance in pursuing what is "good" is a good intention but wasted on something as intuitively appealing as music.

Nah, I just like groovy things. I have yet to see a classical piece that made me want to dance.

from a musician's standpoint classical is much too exact. it leaves no room for improvisation or personalization. Classical can be compared to math and genres the resulted from rock or jazz can be compared to literature.
>>
>>69193256
have you heard of a word called 'valse'? a lot of pieces are strictly connected with dance expression.
>>
>>69193317
Do you mean waltz? kek
>>

This exactly. Music these days isn't so much focused on the academia and the underlying theory behind it, most of the stuff today just reaches our emotions straight away and make us want to 'groove' or get and up do something. I guess it's kind of a cultural thing as well, we have been so indoctrinated with the
idea that a simple 4 chord progression on a guitar is nice to listen to and that's really all most people want in music. We just want something nice to listen to. Heck it doesn't even have to be music, there are literally EDM songs with zero chord progressions and just a one or two note bassline, and people still enjoy those sounds. Those 'noise' that makes them dance or shit.

I do agree that if a pop music is 8, classical music would most definitely be ranked infinitely higher. But I also highly suspect that the way pop music is ranked, it isn't truly based on the underlying theory and proficiency in music playing.

I'd say classical still primarily appeals to the emotions, and the famous works are famous for similar reasons pop songs are famous (catchiness, emotion, even narrative/lyrics), it's just maybe a different context or way of expressing or feeling the same range of emotions

Waltz doesn't make my booty shake.

>>69193329
Yeah. A complex language doesn't mean it's an efficient one.

>lowering the standards
here's your problem. Different musical species can only be considered successful by the authority of different aesthetic criteria. 'perfect' musical relativism isn't making the claim that all types are equal: It is rejecting the very idea that you can make subjective-value claims like many of the ones you yourself invoke, airy-fairy, idealistic terms like 'perfect', 'infinitely superior' and 'the highest achievements of human race'. Do you have any evidence besides hyperbole and bombast that can demonstrate how you ordered your top 10?
>>
>>69193194
>standards
Please feel free to explain in detail what makes your value system -objectively- better than any other value system when it comes to evaluating music and forming "standards."

Good luck without resorting to explaining your personal preferences!

Pop has rotted your brains, sorry.

I listened to Rite of Spring once and once I was done with it, I felt that all the post-rock and prog that I listened to pale in comparison with the magnificence of the ballet itself, it was so rich in terms of musicality and introduced a lot of tensions in term of harmony, dynamics, it really frightens you.

But sometimes you know plebs like me just want something simple to listen to that doesn't make me rack my brain, or I just want a simple 4 minute song to endure my ride in the tube.

I mean, there's lot's of ways to insult someone but sometimes a simple FUCK YOU is enough.

And elitism made you an unlovable person.
