>live version of a song is better than the studio version
What's her name /mu/?
I like the "touch me" by the doors live version more. Maybe because I heard it first but I think it sounds better without all the horns.

Bennie and the Jets, specifically the version from soul train where Elton is dressed like a Leprechaun. I prefer it because it actually sounds more like a studio version.

>>69126626
Not so in that specific instance. I guess Elton has a serious taboo against lipsyncing so he insisted that it be 'done live'. Notice all the weird improvisational stuff he does at the end. The piano pari of it, I must concede, is almost certainly pre-recorded though. It just sounds more like a studio recording because there's no fake audience noise. https://youtu.be/y-lOIKP5l3w

The live version of Ful Stop they've been playing on this tour has kinda ruined the studio version for me, it feels empty without Thom going "2,3,4,1,2,5,1" right before the part when it goes nuts and just generally feels too quiet

The Dead's studio work is complete shit compared to their live albums. My brother was super into them, and I tried listening to a bunch of studio albums and couldn't get into it. But then I did acid with him and listened to Europe '72 and I had a sort of transcendental moment during Morning Dew (including the prelude) and was hooked. I'd say Dick's Picks vols. 7 and 36 are better than Europe '72 though, imo.
>>69126391
Most songs on the name of this band is talking heads are better than the studio versions. Once in a lifetime I prefer the studio version though
Cables
The Pompeii version of Echoes.
Pearl Jam - Black unplugged, AIC - Nutshell unplugged. Pretty basic I know but nobody else mentioned them.
Like A Rolling Stone's studio recording does nothing for me but the "Royal Albert Hall" performance is one of the best recordings in rock history.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dT7fV4wT55w Live recording version of Erotic City kinda shits all over the original. The original was good, but it was just like...too electronic. Live version was obviously more rock, meaning more emphasis on instruments and solid playing.
If I do wanna listen to the more electronic version of Erotic City I'll listen to the George Clinton's cover. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dT7fV4wT55w

I'm going to have to disagree with you there. I think the studio version of Like Spinning Plates is amazing and underrated, while the live version totally fails to capture the atmosphere and brilliance of the studio.

From the Budokon album. They extend the instrumental a crapload and add an incredibly good buildup and climax. The first time a buddy of mine heard it he dubbed it the orgasm song.
>>69132221
The only thing I can disagree with is Up the downstair. I just love the remastered version so fucking much.
I would kill to hear them play all of Voyage 34. I got to see Steve Wilson play his newest album a few months ago, was cash.
