I have about a 500 dollar budget for a new bass. I've been looking at random Matsumoku made stuff but I'm not sure how they compare to something modern in the same price range. Any suggestions?

I had one, it was pretty junky. I got a gsr200 Ibanez from my gf 13 years ago, she spent like $200 on it. A whole lot better than the squier. Still have it, still in really good shape. Still have her, too

I hear the GIOs are crap. But>>69105795, the bass i got it fine. Other than that one example, you can get similar guitars from other manufacturers for the same price.. like a Jackson dinky is like the same price as an GRG.. you'll just have to try them and go with preference. If you can't, read reviews and shit online
>>
>>69105913
alright ill avoid the gios
its seems like an impossible task to find something decent for 300$ with at least a humbucker and a single coil configuration
>>
>>69105618
dealing with my p bass now. Played it for years with strings raised and no intonation. Now that I tried setting it up with the strings lowered you can't even play past the mid frets without the string just buzzing. No notes, just a buzz where a note should have been. I have no idea if it's a truss rod issue at this point, and I'm not even really arsed enough to care since I have a different bass to play.
>>
>>69105677
The Ibanez SR500 is awesome but it's $600, might be worth saving up for
>>
>>69105618
It depends on the line:

>Bullets can be diamonds in the rough
>Affinity is to be avoided at all costs unless you're learning or heavy modification/customization
>Standard is alright, can be a crap shoot for quality
>Vintage Modified are very good quality, comparable to lower quality Fenders pretty evenly matched
>Classic Vibe see above

80's Squier II basses are sometimes nice too, which is what the black bass is (MIK neck, MII body) but mostly for specific types. Look for the ones made in Korea, the necks are superb.
>>
>>69106002
It's your truss rod. The neck is probably bowed to hell and back because of the high action.

>>69106201
the 112v? how hard would it be to remove the tremolo?
>>

Surprisingly no bend in the neck. How it came out of the box 9 years ago, there it had remained. It was fun until I learned what I was doing.
>>
>>69106283
Pop out the arm and block off the trem if that's an issue. Won't find much better beginner guitar in that price range.

>>

>>
>>69106970
The Carvin customized stuff is great. The problem that most people have is resell value. If some one wanted to throw down money for a used carvin bass/guitar, they would just have one made to their liking. Otherwise they are great instruments.
>>
What'll give me more volume, 2 vintage Jensen 12"s or 2 Eminence Legendary 15"s?

obv 15s will move more air than 12s, but will the Eminences be able to come close to efficiency of the Jensens? Tryna blow heads off at basement shows etc

I still can't believe this guy made that video. He really humbled the fuck out in the last ten years, but I'll always miss those articles where he'd say that he was actually a messenger from God who worked through him via music. It's like i'm watching Highlander when I see this shit. Can you imagine being the camera man for this fucking shit? How do you find a proper angle when his entire guitar is a mirror and he's facing the sun?

Anyways, picture of my new purchase to go along with this shit.
Also, has anyone tried any new 2015/2016 Charvel guitars lately? Why the fuck are their necks and frets so covered in lacquer? They seem built to be literal mantle pieces instead of functional guitars.
>>
Might sound like a dumb question but can you run hotter signals like synths through guitar pedals? Does it depend on the kind of effect or specific pedal?
>>
>>69108357
I run synths through fuzz pedals all the time.
>>
>>69106970
Screw fender, at the price point of an mia standard bass you can get hand built customized instruments from people who actually put in effort and pay attention to detail. Hell, I bet these instruments are even better than the "custom shop" fender stuff. And yes, "custom shop" because it's a fucking joke.

Aalrighty.. I'm guessing quite a few of us have heard this problem before.

So my Classic Vibe Tele makes a nice little hum on the neck and middle position, not the on the bridge. Noise goes away when I touch the strings or any of the metallic parts. Quick check under the hood didn't really give me clues other than the semi messy soldering job the Squier guys have left me with. Cavities shielded in the factory with paint, so's the pickup cover (aluminum tape).

This is a simple grounding issue right? Classic single coil hum should be constant and apparent on both pickups right?
>>
>>69110120
It's a single coil issue.

Wiring is probably shoddy as well.
>>
>>69108837
The average Japanese plug is way smaller. You'll seriously stretch out the jack on that guitar with an American or European plug. Some say they like it, but it's always a risk.

>>
>>69110486

>>
>>69110486
Buying new pickups is pretty costly considering an EQ pedal does the same thing, only you don't have to drop a wad of cash to turn the mids up
>>
>>69110494
okay, thank you, they seem decent

>>69110519
>Buying new pickups is pretty costly considering an EQ pedal does the same thing

Hah, no.
>>
>>69110535
Ok then mister.
Tell me what is different about them?
>>
>>69110561
Pickups define the frequency response at the very start of the signal chain.

An EQ pedal won't fix mud, it can only boost or cut what you feed it.
>>
>>69110535
It is basically halfway there

>>69110486
I'm Australian too hence I said, MIJ because they're pretty cheap. But I didn't realise 400USD is only 530 AUD. I reckon save up a bit and buy a used Tokai/Greco/Fender MIJ. They're around 800AUD and are great. Best sounding Strat I've ever played was a MIJ Fender. Old Ibanez's are good, but most of them are Roadstars which aren't technically Strat's, but they're basically the same.

You should generally never buy new honestly, but most of my gear was bought new, so what do I know?
>>
>>69110612
I've fixed mud before.
But assuming the guy goes into a store he should easily be able to find a twanger without scummy pickups anyway
>>
>>69105795
Do her.
>>
>>69110628
There are a few things I've seen used but I'm scared to buy them because of my lack of knowledge, I could end up with something horrible. My price is a bit higher than that, probably around $900 AUD.
>>
Who has a real synthaxe here though ?
>>
>>69105690
I use Dunlop Tortex exclusively. I like the black Tortex, they feel harder and stiffer even with the same corresponding size in the coloured variations. I use .73mm, .60mm and .73mm "The Wedge" sometimes too. I like lighter gauges which isn't all that common for "shred" guitar players but contrary to the popular belief that more rigid and more pointy picks cross strings easily I find the opposite to be true, the lighter the plectrum and thinner the less effort I exert crossing the string. I practice with heavy gauge picks though and when I go back to lighter picks I feel really airy.

I just memorize that 5th and 17th are the fourth of the open string, 7th the fifth and 2th the fifth, and 12/24 the octave. Then I "build" the rest of the fretboard. It's a little bit more convulted but that way you can play in any tuning without getting it wrong.

>>69105851
Don't GIO. The standard line is fine, past 500$ you've got some great guitars. The pickups aren't as bad as people make them out to be.

>>69105913
You heard right. They're complete ass, play like shit and are built to suit that.
The truss rod in mine's probably fucked now too.

>>
>>69107296

>>
>>69110710
Check Facebook, there's a few groups based on selling used gear.

If you live in Melbourne, a few guys ship alot of stuff from Japan, and they have pretty good reputations for prices and quality. Pete Ahern is one, I dunno the other guys name, but www.ebay.com.au/usr/string-switch-noise is his ebay shop. He also has gumtree. There's also a few stores in Carlton that are full of GOAT Fenders.

Also never buy online. Like, seriously never. 1/10 chance you get a guitar that works, doesn't need a setup and feels right. Probably 1/20. Always try before you buy.
>>
>>69106329
To be honest I'm not familiar with the Silver series, never even heard of them actually. So I really don't have and idea on the quality, but if you like it and it plays well and sounds good to you then that's awesome. I'll have to check one out.
>>
>>69106676
There's a deal on a T-40 on Reverb right now. They usually go for ~$500 but this one is less than $400 it has some minor cosmetic issues, but it doesn't affect the playability.

>>69114125

well, I've had a roland cube many years ago
I don't wanna be that guy but generally these transistor amps are nowhere as good as all tube combos or head/cab combinations, but since you're playing through one, I believe one of your concerns is space saving

how about pedals? Do you generally use the effects of the amp, or are you planning to build your own pedalboard?

also this

>>69114199
About 500-600 bucks

>>69111970

>>
>>69114237
if you're looking for some clean tone, you should check something like a fender hot rod, a blues junior, possibly used
you'll lose all the effects of the roland, but trust me, not that great of a loss
you could buy a few pedals, focusing on the effects you need the most

you could also check out some ampeg guitar combos, they're super underrated, vintage stuff
they crunch just a little sooner than the fender

If you plan on staying in the transistor world but add some serious quality, you should check out the vox valvetronix, it's a hybrid combo, with tons of effects and a tube in the pre. Plenty of volume. My guitarist started with one as a bedroom amp. He's now playing through an Orange OR15 and a silvertone vintage amp. Planning on buying a fender vintage super reverb

>>
>>69116634
That peghead is the worst thing about that entire bass, and that entire bass is terrible.

The scales are independent of tab and sheet, but if you can read sheet the scales themselves make more sense. Alternatively, you can learn "shapes" and tablature and you'll probably be fine.

Slap stopped being a big deal in punk and metal in the early 90s, when the Faith No More sound fell out of fashion.

There's some debate about floating-thumb versus anchoring, other techniques include sweeping, tapping, and legato. There's plenty about bass guitar to learn.

Practice until you're confident in your ability to play music you like. Practice to a metronome, because odds are good that you'll be responsible for keeping time just as much as the drummer is.

Auditions depend on who and what you're auditioning for. If you're looking at punk and metal bands on Craigslist, they're probably just looking to see if you have your own equipment, can arrive on time, can play along with them, and aren't an asshole. It's generally informal.

5 string basses are not a joke, and neither are fretless basses. They're different tools for different jobs, with 5 strings being more common.

>should i learn scales, if so which ones?
obviously so. start with the 7 modes of the major scale
>tab or sheet?
both, knowing sheet helps communicate with other non fretted instruments
>is learning slap necessary for punk/metal?
for punk no
for metal neither, but you can pop out of the mix and give some nice effects with slap
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XF-PCe3--6I
>what techniques other than slap bass exist (does anything else even exist?)
tapping, fingerstyle
>how long should i practice before considering joining a band?
as long as you know what's holding the root and can keep the tempo, you can play in half of every local band
>is 5 string a joke?
if you only play the low B string, it's useless
if you move around and have good technique, it's great

>tab or sheet?
honestly unless you're planning on playing with brass instruments, pianists or jazz ensembles you can stick to tabs, but it won't ever hurt you to learn to read
>is learning slap necessary for punk/metal?
if you like Mudvayne and Faith No More, sure. Don't do the Korn thing though.
>what techniques other than slap bass exist (does anything else even exist?)
two handed tapping is pretty popular in some metal genres
>how long should i practice before considering joining a band?
till you feel confident enough and can play through whole songs without fucking up often

depends on the guys, most bands are happy just to get someone who can actually play bass
>is 5 string a joke?
>is fretless a joke?
both have their uses
>>
>>69116914
5 strings are for hitting lower notes without downtuning, and for paying 5 dollars more a pack for strings.

Fretless has a fairly unique sound, and you can play in-between "correct" pitches for weird outside noises and non-western stuff.

Hey guitbros,

I'm looking to buy a new amp. I kinda wanna spend between 200 and 400$.
I want to use it for some gigs at some reasonable sized venues so I recon at least 40-100W should do the trick.

I want a versatile 80's/90's alt rock kind of sound (sonic youth, dinosaur jr, slint, nirvana, jesus lizard, big black) so I was looking into Fender amps. The thing is, I don't want to fuck around with screens and complicated layouts that the new modeling amps have. Just a couple of channels with your basic knobs.

What do you rec? It need not be Fender.
(I have a Epi Les Paul standard with coil-splitable Seymour Duncans if that helps)

Also, are pic relateds memes or actually worth getting? I've seen them go cheap second hand and it's the kind of thing I need.

Minor pentatonic, major pentatonic, blues, minor, major. Eventually youll benefit from learning modes, the scale played around a different note. A minor and c major are the same scale, they both give a different feeling. That comes later, crawl before you walk.

You dont need to learn sheet music, i never use it anymore. If you want to learn classical or jazz at some point you should learn it. I feel being able to play by ear is more valuable.

Slap is very uncommon in punk and metal. If you like the way it sounds learn it.

Common ways to play aside from slap are fingers, picks, touchstyle and tapping. Pick takes away a lot of tonal and dynamic range, but sometimes you just need it(a lot of punk and metal) for the sharp attack or speed, which can mostly be reached with fingers but it does give a different sound. Touch style and tapping are advanced techniques, dont bother yet until you learn what notes to play across the fret board.

I joined my first band after playing 3 months, it was a shitty punk band but still, it helped me advance. If you can play in time you can play with people.

Be able to improvise, learn quickly, know some popular songs in the genre youre going into, but most importantly dont be a tool. People dont like working with assholes.

I play strictly 5 strings. Unless im playing punk or classic rock loke acdc where low notes dont add anything, then ill reach for a 4 string p bass. The low b doesnt exist for you to ride it, some situations call for it, but most dont. Slapping is harder for me on a 5 string though, id probably get use to it but i dont really like it. 4 notes might not seem like a lot, but it really is once you learn how to incoporate them.

Fretless is useless unless you play a style that it works well with, then its a better option than a fretted bass for a lot of players. Rock, no. Jazz, yes. It has a more mellow sound, and you can go slightly sharp or flat with ease.
>>
>>69118831
I imagine with a metronome
>>
>>69118895
This, and playing with a drum machine so you can practice grooves as well.

>>69118831
Go through all note values from whole to 16th including triplets. Slow it down it you need, youll advance more at a lower speed where you can play perfectly than a higher speed where you play sloppily.

Dont practice speed building and playing on time to records. Im sure a lot of people here listen to records produced with very small budgets. A lot of drummers cant keep perfect time, it comes through a lot more on projects that dont have an engineer qunatizing everything and making it perfect. A lot of times you wont be able to tell because these bands are used to playing with each other so it doesnt sound lopsided or offbeat. You could learn to play perfectly in time to pne drummers quirks, which wont benefit you when you play with another drummer who has different quirks.
>>
>>69116904
It can sound alright/good with some setups (e.g a markbass for playing jazz) but most of the time, it'll sound like shit, especially on a 15". toneman is no exception

>A lot of drummers cant keep perfect time, it comes through a lot more on projects that dont have an engineer qunatizing everything and making it perfect.

Literally everything is recorded to a metronome, except maybe Bonnie Prince Billy style fedora-core recorded in one take. I'd agree its very hard for drums to always keep perfect time and sometimes going out of whack in fills or chorus/verse changes, they need to practice more.
But in my experience its usually always the guitarist who cant play in time and forces everybody else to adjust.

>>
>>69119860
Some drummers cant keep time to a metronome, especially during fills. Metronome has been standard for years, yes, i was strictly refering to low budget records where they cant afford to have the drummer track one song for 4 hours to make it spotless(or to pull in a session drummer that can do the job). It happens more times than youd imagine. The whole point i was trying to make is dont practice playing on time to a record because something like a slightly early kick every other measure measure is enough to train you to play early without even realizing it. Its important to practice to recordings too, but i wouldnt do it to practice timing.

You're right though, guitar player is the one that normally messes everything up.
>>
>>69120069
i think im legit retarded, i try to do this but i get fucked instantly since the song plays two notes for each tick on the metronome

>>69119860
Speaking as a drummer reverting from fills isn't actually that difficult, bass drum is always on auto-pilot and you learn to land the last cymbal hit directly on it.

And not everything is recorded to a click track, in fact a lot of the more funk/off interval rhythms would be hindered by one single track recorded.

> It happens more times than youd imagine

I've recorded in the studio before, its extremely hard to put down the whole drum track perfectly to just a metronome and nothing else, it holds everything back as you say.
The last time I just told the engineer (a coked up 80's dinosaur) to put on a drum machine at the BPM of the song, record the rest of the parts and then I'd do the drums last but he wouldn't do it and got really heated about his "recording method" so I told him to fuck off and packed up.

It just takes some practice to instantly switch different feels and rhythms, do a spot improvised fill and land it perfectly and then instantly switch back to normal. You have your set-piece stuff but of course you dont want to do the same thing over and over like some 70's drummer rolling around the toms.
I try to just line up the cymbal with the metronome and then everything else goes off that right hand so its easy to put in offbeat snare and bass hits.

never touched one before in my life, now i can play YEM by phish.
kidding aside, i played guitar for like a few weeks as a kid and took some lessons but never practiced.

played bass for 15yrs off and on after that, took lessons, took theory classes in college.

i started not being able to play on the strings and now i can pretty much hit them when/where i want to. it still sounds like a hornets nest when i strum. but i've learned like maybe the 15-20 most popular/used chords and can switch between them pretty well.

a lot of my theory is coming back to me, and i remember a lot more than i think, and learned a lot more back in the day than i ever realized.

actually playing this instrument instead of another instrument (ie bass) has helped my musicianship 100 fold.

usually i just pick up and start strumming out some chords in a progression since i dont feel like i have a lot of time lately since i've been busy at work, but i've been working through mel bay 1 when i have time.
>>
>>69120634

>>
>>69120664
no idea what a metalzone or pedal board is (no bully pls), the amp is just a 10 watt with volume and low/medium/high equalizer knobs
>>
>>69120639
cont, my main goal for now is to keep playing, working some times for chops on picking clean notes and practicing the mechanics of switching notes, and learning more chords/theory. this will be mixed with progressing through mel bay 1, i want to make it through all of mel bay guitar 1 and 2, and then probably go take lessons for a few months, and then go do more theory on my own.

i'm trying to learn a song here or there on the side, but i really don't give a shit about this aspect of playing. though as i learn theory more, most songs sound super fucking easy now, assuming it isn't phish or dillinger escape plan etc.
>>
>>69120705

I dont know what kind of guitar or amp you have but it shouldn't be doing that generally unless you have the gain and volume turned up and are sitting beside it and pointing your pickups at it. Maybe somebody abused the shit out of that amp by playing a bass through it.

Different strokes for different folks. Old people get set in their ways, and they also tend to look down on younger people who they feel have less experience, know less about whats going on. That sounds like a solid method, i could see it having issues in some settings, such as bands that have a little bit of an improv thing going on, or say you lay out a fill and it would sound really neat of the bass synced the fill with one of his own. But thats what punch ins are for, so completely feasible. Ive seen some engineers even hate the idea of recording scratch tracks.

I was thinking about doing something similar until i get a drum room set up, but using an electronic drum set tracking midi to a sequencer where we can go back and line up kick and snare if its off time, recording everything, then going back and recording live drums at this guys spot I know. I cant stand the guy, but he has an excellent sounding room and mics, and he charges like $25 an hour. If we had everything else complete we could just slide in, track in a day or 2, and then i may never have to see him again.
>>
>>69120705
Does it buzz when you have nothing (no guitar/cable) plugged into it?
>>
>>69120901

That sounds like a good plan. A good electronic kit can sound as good as any real kit and is way easier to record with in every way.
>>
anyone know any slow paced, beginner metal songs for bass?

when its unplugged it makes no noise, thanks for having patience with my stupidity

Help guys, I just bought a joyo ultimate overdrive pedal and bought this pedal https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005M0CK9M/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479428092&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=joyo+ultimate+overdrive and it sounds like shit out of my stratocaster, my amp is a fender mustang III does anyone know what could be the problem? I've heard using longer audio jacks could be the problem but I've only ever used a really long one so idk if it affects the tone
>>
>>69121028
The buzz might be coming from your guitar then. That could be from shitty electronics/poor shielding/noisy pick-ups/etc. Also, possible interference from other electronics around you.
>>
>>69121060
>I've heard using longer audio jacks could be the problem but I've only ever used a really long one so idk if it affects the tone

a longer cable? what do you mean exactly? its probably because you bought a $30 chinese pedal with a modeling amp.
>>
Hey /gg/ i'm about to begin setting up my LP from scratch and the guides i see on google all have different order and measurements for it, which is the ultimate setup guide i should be following? Thanks in advance kind anons
>>
>>69121288
Its pretty straight forward

New strings
Stretch strings
Adjust truss rod as needed, little increments, tighten first, even if you need too loosen it. Like, 1/8th of a turn then back to where it was initially, easier to toghten than loosen, just to make sure its turning.
Set action.
Check for fret buzz through an amp, you might get buzz thats not detectable at all through the amp that doesnt affect sustain.
Adjust intonation.

And clean everything up real nice with the strings off.

Dont adjust the truss rod without knowing what youre doing and why. Read at least 3 reputable articles. I fucked up my first truss asjustment. That was back when the only thing you could find on the internet were a couple of shitty html sites, theres much better resources available now.
>>
>>69121216
The input from my guitar into the pedal is a long cable and someone told me that shorter cables are optimal but idk if that's true
>>
>accidentally my whole guitar while trying to take it apart
FUCK, anyone know how to fix this?
>>
>>69121547
Unless you're using like 20+ m of cable to plug your guitar the effect is pretty negligible.
>>
>>69121617
Fug so is its probably just a shit pedal and shit amp
>>
So I got a bass pretty much just for my home "studio", I have no experience with one. I need to tune it down to drop B though, but I have no fucking clue how to adjust the truss rod and there aren't any guitar shops in a reasonable distance to do it for me. Should I just tune to drop D and transpose it down in my DAW?
>>
>>69121596
Do everything you did but in reverse
>>
>>69121498
Thanks i'm getting started already i guess.
Also, how did you fuck it up?
>>
>>69121745
get a 5 string
>>
>>69121547
Longer cables have more resistance(technically i think its capacitance, im not not that savvy). Anyways, that can suck up power and kill your tone(as legend goes). If your pedal is not true bypass then it has a buffer, a buffer will help counteract that. Ive never had an issue with 20 ft cables. Probably not your issue.

Joyo sucks, had their fuzz octave, garbage for anything thats not lofi and abbrasive.
>>
>>69121874
Too poor my nigga
>>
>>69121914

Get a thicker set of strings and an allen wrench.

Put the thicker strings on your bass, adjust saddles/nut if needed. Set truss rod action with the allen wrench, then adjust intonation on the bridge.
>>
>>69121849
Over tightened it. I was 15 and it was my first electric.

I had been playing 6 months, then i played someone else's guitar, and i realized how much easier it was to play then mine, even though he said it was in the same price range as mine. Did some research, found set ups, attempted it.

Then i heard the snap. I had some money saved from mowing grass and doing handyman shit like fixing fences and changing door knobs or whatever, i just bought a new one. But i had to learn from a hard mistake.
>>
>>69121714
are you on a clean preset?
>>
>>69122323
I have any modulation turned off it's just clean
>>
>>69121991
shit, this kinda scares me since i gotta tighten the truss rod, i hope it all goes well
>>
>>69122529
Just dont over tighten it, they recommend like an 1/8th of a turn at a time. I was a heavy handed kid without much foresight, you should be fine.

Are you doing a kiss cover album? Its pretty solid, the other one too. Youre not really projecting your voice, sounds like youre holding back. I like the drum sound youre getting.
>>
>>69123955
Not but i liked the idea
I'm shameful of the neighbors, gonna try to record singing louder
This song is pretty obscure, are you into kiss?
>>
>>69124165
I honestly have no idea how I know so many of their songs. I spent a few years growing up in southwest Detroit(mexican town) and all the white dudes around there loved Kiss.

Theyve got a distinct sound though, you can tell its them immediately. I would have guessed it was Kiss by the third chord even if i didnt recognize it.

It took me a while to get over singing aeound neighbors, but i came to the realization that singing to crowds is much worse as far as anxiety goes. Neighbors might be annoyed, crowds may look for reasons to hate you. Keep it up man, im interested to see what you do next.

I haven't encountered that many bass players here. It's mostly guitarists because everyone everywhere plays guitar.
>>
>>69124645

If they hurt, play more. If they bleed, break until the skin is healed and begin to play again. Callous yourself over and over again and never stop playing or you will never develop them, or you will lose them. Play at least 30 minutes a day and in a couple of months you won't mind so much.

has anyone tried those gibson scale length necks they sell at warmoth on a strat or tele?

seems kind of interesting and i like gibson scale over fenders
>>
>>69124877
honestly desu senpai noob here
is the only difference between the two scales a couple of inches and not any other functional way?
>>
>>69125238
the difference is 3/4 of an inch

and yes, that is a noticeable difference in the way it plays and feels. i'm more comfortable on gibson scale length because i played on it for like 15 years before switching to a tele
>>
>>69125238
It changes the sound a little, plays differently, different string tension.

Theres also baritone scales, 27" and 28.5", for guitars tuned to b standard(normally), and bass vi scale of 30" for a guitar tuned an octave lower from standard. Neck is longer so strings can reach tension at a lower tuning. Light strings on a gibson will be floppy at b standard.
>>
Thoughts on headphone amps? Worth getting if you mostly play for yourself and have a good set of cans, or is it better to spend a little more and get a speaker amp combo?

t. someone in a college dorm
>>
>>69125438
get a usb interface
>>
>>69125458
how does it compare to a headphone amp like the Vox AC30 for example? Because a usb interface seems to be a bit more than that.
>>
>>69125438
In my experience the vox ones sound like trash, really buzzy and whiney, and using AAA batteries is a pain. Biggest drawback would be if you like playing along to music its not going to happen, biggest pro is that they only have one cable and you can play through them anywhere. Its easy to get tangled with a cable going to your waist and one going to your head while moving your arm around with a guitar neck sticking out.

Theyre not the worst sounding thing, but theyre not pleasant sounding either. I keep one in my case so i can practice betweeb sets or rehearsals. Or so i can work on parts if someone is recording.
>>
>>69116513
I'm late, but i'll answer anyway. Bought that as my 2nd bass and couldn't put it down. It has a familiar body to my squier affinity, while also having a thin neck to go up and down. For ~$200 you can't go wronf.
>>
>>69125286
>>69125410
i see i see ty anons
anything to watch out for switching from gibson to fender neck?
>>
>>69124645
Rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab. Wipe fretting hand and air dry 3 times a day for a week.
Dries up skin and lets calluses build faster. Stay the fuck away from soap with lots of additives.

If your fingers still hurt, stop being a fucking baby.
>>
>>69125604
Fender has small radius on their fretboards compared to Gibson. Gibson tends to use 12" radius, Fender 9.5", if it's a "vintage style" Fender, if can be 7.25" radius, which is a baseball bat with strings on.
>>
>>69125749
oh
so is that why so many strat style guitars come with a tremolo?
>>
>>69125799
Has absolutely nothing to do with it.
>>
>>69125604
gibson fretboards usually have a 12" radius, fender usually has 9.5". the radius basically means how flat or round the fretboard is, 12" radius is flatter than a 9.5". shredder types of players usually like flat boards because it's consistent and it feels faster for single line stuff, rounder necks are easier on the fingers and hands, and it makes gripping chords easier. 12" to me is the best balance for rhythm and lead stuff, but that's just a preference, some may like 16" more.

the neck profiles and the fret types and size are also very different.
>>
>>69125815
seems impossible to bend on
>>
>>69125829
You can bend just as easy on 9.5", they're shit at playing really fucking fast on though.
>>
You guys talk about fretboard radius so often I feel like I'm weird for not caring at all about it.
>>
>>69124528
ive always wanted to know, where they always that expensive? cause it seemed like everyone had one back then
