The last album Shipping News released before member Jason Noble succumbed to cancer. It is almost entirely free of any traces of post-rock from previous projects of Noble or Jeff Mueller save for one instrumental. Todd Cook's bass and Kyle Crabtree's drums seemingly lead the way in this raunchy, energetic rock album; Shipping News' take on Shellac it sounds like at times, especially vocally. All the tracks were taken from two live shows in Louisville, and Japan.

This isn't really on topic, but I recently downloaded a strange mp3 file. I'm assuming it's because the cd jumped when it was being imported. Either way I've never come across a file like this, and I'd like to know what it does for other people. I've looked online and nobody has anything on the topic.

The song is Descent into the Inferno by Foetus. The point where it goes strange is around 2:05. (Not doing a full description because most people here know it and I'm just sharing the one track.)

Here's my experiences with it:
Musicbee: Jumps for a few seconds and continues with the song, but if you skip further ahead than the point where it jumps, it plays the jumping section and continues from that point.
Shuttle music player (Android): As soon as it reaches the jumpy section, it plays the next track. If you skip further than that point, it just plays the next track.
Audiosurf 1: Track appears as a perfectly symmetrical hill. When you play it, there's nothing to collect until the point where the track goes funny, where it freezes and the game becomes unplayable.

I don't know where else to post this, and I don't want to start a new thread for it. If you do download it, please tell me how it plays for you.

Women's other living members have split off to do side projects etc. Patrick Flegel (lead vox for Women) has an interesting project called Cindy Lee that I'd recommend checking out.

Yup Cindy Lee shares a lot of the sour, eerie bleakness that Women did so well. I like to think that Act of Tenderness does to 60s-era pop balladry what Public Strain did to garage rock. I love Preoccupations' debut but can agree that their newest album feels a little uninspired. They're incredible live though, amazing musicians.

This was a cassete compilation from Not Not Fun Records released in limited quantity in 2005. Noise, drone, avant-folk, tape music, spoken word, this album has everything lo-fi you could ever want. Yellow Swans, Impregnable, and Robedoor are on here. Up there with Jewelled Antler Library as my favorite compilation album ever.

People - Ceremony Buddha Meet Rock (1971)

Tags say it all. If you love buddhistic chants then this one is for you. The album can be divided into 3 main parts: Prologue, Shomyo/Prayer, and Epilogue. Both Prologue and Epilogue are made of samples while everything in between is original material. The music is intense, with the male vocals at full throat hitting mostly the low notes (i reckon there's also a nice track with female vocal in this one). It's also often spacy exuding a misty sort of ambience that manifests itself in a relaxing spiritual, zen path, and the whole presentation always bordering on the esoteric and abstract territories, but never getting to the point of becoming improvisational or free form.In 'Buddha Meet Rock' there's somewhat of a departure from the authentic religious scene it was originated from, the mixture with psychodelic music is certainly a different experience even though it's a really nice, cathartic moody listen on its own terms...fans of the avant garde theatrical music of J.A Caesar's Kokkyo Jyunreika, another classic of psychodelic rock from the 70s , Far East Family Band, Samurai or even Acid Mothers Temple definitely "far out" music, will enjoy this
