Who else is glad that jazz has remained very intact and niche, despite producing countless great music? I very rarely ever see any jazz on 'album of the year' lists, or 'greatest albums ever' list, unless it's a site/publication that often reviews that type of music. The closest it ever gets to normal people discussing jazz is the most popular artists of the 60's, or something very recent with "influences". Seriously it's amazing. It's like having a whole century of the greatest and most varied music all to yourself. There's no one around to ruin it, or act like a teenager. I know it's likely that this thread itself won't get any replies, but I just wanted to reflect on how overjoying it is to myself. If there happens to be a few of the other jazz fans online right now, do you feel the same way about this?

I never really thought about it like that but I guess it is cool.
The thing about jazz is that it's a massively diverse genre and has been a big influence on almost every genre of popular music that followed it, yet culturally it still kind of remains in its own world.

It would be nice at times to have more people eager to discuss jazz, but I think you have a point as well.
In the 50's and 60's jazz basically became art music and several record labels emerged that are willing to support the art and artists without much commercial consideration and without the need to pander to a popular audience I think a lot of great music has emerged.
Still, when I'm listening to some amazing album that came out in 2006 that I've never heard mentioned anywhere before I think it's a shame how few people must have heard that music.

Can anyone recc some good contemporary jazz? All the jazz I listen to is from the last century.

How modern do you want?
>>69082209
I only got into jazz the last year and a half or so, and I'm still getting through a lot of 40s/50s/60s/70s albums, let alone anything from the 2000s.

Anything within the last 10 years, I'd say.
