What are some groups that ended up making completely different music than they started out doing?
I can't believe pic related is 3/4ths of Joy Division, even to this day.
I feel like the obvious one here is talk talk
Joy division probably wild have went the way of new order anyway, I remember reading one of them (forgot who) said Ian was open to trying new styles more than the rest of them, so even if he didn't die they still would have gone that direction.

Wasn't Ian going to quit and make weird Industrial with Genesis P-Orridge?

Coldplay

It's funny because Peter Hook is a complete dead ringer for Ian's voice at times so him performing New Order stuff solo is a fairly close approximation to what it would've sounded like with Ian singing.
Really all of that 80s Post-Punk crowd ended up in a completely different place than when they started.
Killing Joke
>dub in the late 70s
>Joy Division style post-punk in the early 80s
>poppy New Wave and Goth in the mid 80s
>synthpop in the late 80s
>shoegazey alt rock in the 90s
>full-on balls to wall industrial metal starting in the early 2000s

Peter Hook is a cunt and can't do shit without the rest of the group look at all of his groups after New Order.
He is just a money hungry whore.

He's making a club version of Atmosphere.

What the fuck are you talking about?

Bark Psychosis. Before they recorded anything they were a Death Metal cover band.
>>69018092
Basically every death doom band like Tiamat, Katatonia, The Gathering, Anathema, Paradise Lost or Sentenced eventually moved to gothic or alternative rock
Except Paradise Lost who make metal again now

Not in the traditional sense but they really didn't properly start their heavier phase until the 2003 album and I felt like I needed to make that distinction. There was way more alt rock material on the 90s releases than there was metal stuff.
Also listen to Geordie's tone on most of Pandemonium or Democracy and tell me that's not shoegazy.

also for some reason I had it in my head that Extremities was an '89 release. My bad.
