Can we derive our own perceived meaning from lyrics that were written with a specific, and different meaning in mind?
Can we assign meaning to a fragment of a song, without it being negated by the fact that the rest of the song has a completely different context/meaning?
Pic unrelated
Obviously

>hurr there's a proper way to enjoy art
If you derive additional value from reading or discussing how others interpret art, that's fine, but by no means is it 'necessary'. This goes the same for placing art within a framework or context. Both approaches are valid (taking things on face value vs. with background information), and a combination of the two is also valid. This isn't a cop out; it's up to YOU, as the viewer, to forge your own system for how you want to absorb art. You don't get to be lazy and follow a set of rules to maximize your experience. You have to develop your own style of critique, and you have to face the consequences when somebody tells you you're an enormous faggot for liking the things you like and feeling the way that you do.
Bojack Horseman is also utter trash for undeveloped man-children who are so devoid of real human experiences that they can't empathize with people around them. It's no wonder the viewers can only connect with the loathsome self pity of the main character, because they all hate themselves and their worthless lives.

Everything is meaningless until you give it meaning. All meaning comes from the self.
