I've asked him to turn down and he refuses, or he'll just move the knob a tiny bit. I haven't really pushed the issue tho since the earplugs I was using then didn't attenuate the sound very much anyway. But last practice I brought better plugs and my ears were still ringing afterwards.

If your guitarist is the writer its hard to give suggestions without their ego coming into play.

Does he wear ear plugs? Did you notify him that he is going to lose his hearing?
