I'm trying to into metal. So far I've listened to Sunbather and that album was absolutely fantastic. I've also listened to The Mantle by Agalloch which was really good. But I don't know how metal they are. What are some good metal albums to get started on in the genre?

If you liked sunbather I'd reccomend the blackgaze genre since sunbather is closer to shoegaze than it is to actual metal
The new Vektor album was pretty dope

Is there a lot of more instrumental metal? I really like metal instrumentation but I can't get past the vocals in any metal, they just make me cringe every time.
You need to listen to this.

Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk came out in 1997.
Isis - Panopticon because Isis is the most comfy metal

While not metal, I'd say that Sunbather borrows heavily in some respects from As The Roots Undo:

Daily reminder that Cattle Decapitation is the pinnacle of what metal has to offer, and if The Anthropocene Extinction wasn't your AOTY forr 2015, you're doing something wrong.
>>68978417
Melvins as drone metal? You obviously don't listen to them much
>>68977305
Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Metallica

In the black metal column, I personally think that In the Nightside Eclipse is better than Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk, but both are great. Also, no love for Darkthrone? Under a Funeral Moon is one of the best black metal records ever made
