U2 is, or rather was, post-punk

I can't into Ride, please help. The vocalist sounds kind of shitty, I guess I just need to get used to it. As of now, however, I think it would sound much better as an instrumental album.

U2 was before The Unforgettable fire and Ride was shoegaze whether you like it or not

Definitely. They don't deserve to even be mentioned with MBV and Slowdive.

It's just British indie / proto-Britpop with a little flange and phaser.

I even like them okay, but they're just a catchy guitar band. I'd discuss them more in terms of the Stone Roses or something.
