Hliðskjálf is really good as well, and probably the best instrumental album he's ever done or will do. Still incredible to think he made it in prison. But it still doesn't have the same feeling that songs like The Crying Orc, Han Som Reite, or Dungeons of Darkness have. The first four albums Burzum albums were all written and recorded within a year. The environment around him, the people he was with, and the music he was listening to at the time in Bergen weren't able to be replicated in prison and the French country side. Even had Varg not gone to prison, I doubt he would have been able to release another album of similar quality since the scene was deteriorating by then.

It's not even fair to compare Die Festung with Hvis Lyset Tar Oss. They are genres apart from each other. Die Festung is incredible but so is Hvis Lyset Tar Oss, both for their own charming reasons. The only comparison you can make between them is that a black metal artist made them and that the atmosphere they create is bone chilling. You could argue that some of Pd'Hs other black mteal albums are better, but that wouldn't be true 2bh.

A large part of orthodox Satanism/occult tends to involve the Qlippoth, which is the opposite to the Sephirot of Jewish Kabblah. But much is also based on gnostic teachings, and Neoplatonism. The Old Testament/Torah and a variety of additional esoteric books linked to those times are also of relevance.

As is the case though with most occult traditions and currents, nothing is really set in stone. It's all about finding what works for you and mixing and matching, taking a bit from column A and column B etc.
