Since I'm assuming you don't read much anyway, I'd say start with the well known stuff first to get a feel for what you like. And once you find a good author that you feel fits your taste than expand on it, try to find similar authors that have a similar writing style but with a twist.

I can't necessarily pick one for you, I don't know you personally. When I starting reading I chose many books by Ray Bradbury, so why not start there?
