Anybody going to take advantage of the Studio One 3 Professional crossgrade for $200 this month?

I'm on the fence, since reaper works pretty well for me, but Studio One is really cool too.
>>
So I posted this in the last thread, but wasn't told if I was doing this right. Is this a thing, does it sound ok, or is it too boring because it uses a total of three chords.
https://clyp.it/pnpch0ty
>>
>>68903183
I like it, but yeah it sounds pretty repetitive. There shouldn't be a problem with three chords, plenty of music has been considered "good" with only three chords. I'd say your main problem is having the same melody throughout, which kinda makes it boring. If this is just sort of a jumping off point, then I don't think its too bad, but it's definitely not a finished kinda thing if that's what you're asking.

sort of a weird almost non music thing im working on but i'd like to know if this style is worth working with
https://vid.me/NA9h

i've figured out how to convert the data in audio files to video, but there's a lot of tailoring of the audio to make the effects noticeable, like filtering out all of the instruments through a low pass filter. the vidme link is a test done with ring a bell bc i have the stems for it, but i'd soon be applying this to my own music

tldr i made a cool thing and want to know if i'm the only person who thinks its cool

I moastly ust them in omni mode so I would be using the KM183s, but yeah that's like $2200 American for a pair. They are sooo good though. I have a long list of mics I would like to have but I'm astounded at how good these C4s sound. I always figured my eventual upgrade would be to a pair of Rode NT55s, but honestly I don't think it's worth it anymore. These babies give the Rodes a run for their money, and at least in regards to on-axis response, the Neumanns too!

Girls are the worse person to ever ask for feedback.

For one, girls don't understand sound design, or music in general; they just don't. Secondly they are going to fall into one of two categories:

a) Girls who say anything you make is good in order to gainer favors and complements to fuel the endless circle jerk that is their lives.

b) Girls that say everything you make is bad because they are too insecure with themselves to admit they have no understanding of what they are listening too, and the addition of someone personally around them that is better at them in something would only devalue their own self worth.

Had a GF once that fell into the ladder. Tested by one day making her listen to a song that she was jamming out to a music festival before, only for her to tell me it was shit after I lied and said I made it. Then I had her listen to another piece and told her it was by a popular producer, and she said it was really fucking good, but it was actually one of mine.

Girls ain't nothing but tricks.
>>
>>68906850
Decent track, loving those percussions man

Sounds like it wants to go into a psychadelic vibe.

around 2:05 onwards needs work. The theme for the dropping triangle hits is stale if you use it too many times. Im guessing that was just because you have not figured out how to finish it from there.

looking for tips specifically on the kicks that come in around half way through. feel free to give criticism (as harsh as you can) on anything else, but the kicks are the reason I'm posting today

--------

Was going to give feedback to the posters who had done the same, but it seems nobody did that before posting their own... Don't wanna be a hypocrite so I guess I'll reward their laziness

>>68910363
enjoying this, I think the hi-hat or whatever it is could do with some variation, and it seems like new elements come into it exactly when I guessed they might. I suppose that's what some people would consider a good thing, but personally I think it'd be better if it was a little more unpredictable

>>68910006
again I enjoyed listening to this. really liked when the drums came in halfway through. think you could use some melodic/non-percussive element with higher frequencies

>>68908513
if that really is your first clip ever then congrats, great start. even if you've used a preset for the synth (amazing job if not, but even if you have I think that's fine whilst you get your head around other elements), good job on the filter automation. keep it up, not much constructive criticism I can give as it's a bit short.
>>
Hey /prod/ just thought I'd let you all know that protools have just released a free version called " Pro Tools First". It looks pretty minimal but might be a good start for some beginners in these threads.
>>
>>68912180

hmmm
>>
>>68912239
At least it has mono
>>
>>68912239
Well its free so I guess its like a trial version. Like I said if you are just starting out then I'm sure that will be just fine. You could probably bounce down those 16 tracks to one track and have 15 more tracks to use if its a problem
>>
>>68912380
later on it says you can't bounce tracks
>>
>>68912404
>record audio out
>import audio to new track
theres always a simple work around. Like I've said I'm not recommending this to producers that already have a preferred DAW or need advanced functions, but to beginners as an option. When you start out you probably won't need more than 16 tracks.
>>
>>68912108
>Was going to give feedback to the posters who had done the same, but it seems nobody did that before posting their own...
This is pretty much why I never post feedback here anymore.
>>
Also a first time DAW user. There is a lot that I'm struggling with, but thankfully my girls are well insulated against assailing ladders.

1. As a piano player, anything I do just seems so robotic, I'm sure there are techniques to overcome this, but I always just played on feel, no idea what jazz looks like on a piano roll.

2. What's wrong with FL? What'd I do?

3. Good instruments and VSTs are a pain to find. Surely someone's made an archive or something right? Especially want: http://www.bestservice.de/en/forest_kingdom_ii.html

Anyway, have a listen: https://clyp.it/tmaf5kzh
>>
>>68912727
Musically it's fine, but yeah those sounds are god awful. The sad thing is it's pretty much impossible to get good sounding instruments without paying I've found.

Did you play that in or just edit it into the piano roll?
>>
Piano roll all the way. Don't have a decent mike.
>>
>>68912727

>>
>>68912902
Okay, then one thing I noticed as a piano player, when I use my digital keyboard to play in music, especially chords, is the various velocities you get that you didn't realise. It sounds like on your track all the velocities are the same.

https://clyp.it/4wcuxwph

What I would say is turn down the the middle notes of the chords a bit, this tends to be how people naturally play chords. With the melody as well, try and vary the velocities to get natural rises and falls. Again notes tend to be louder on the beats, and at the top of melodies

TO demonstrate I just played in a piece of music, then I replicated it but made all the velocities the same. Specifically the chords sound harsher.
>>

>>
What sort of setup do you guys have and how do you rate your tools/equipment in terms of priority?
I'm just getting started with music production so I don't have anything yet but I wanna gauge what most people use on a daily basis.

>DAW
Cubase
10/10 absolutely invaluable. Love this thing to death.

>monitors
None yet, just a shitty pair of Logitech speakers and Sennheiser headphones. They're both shit and I don't trust them. Next thing I'll get are a pair of Rokit 5s, I've had a listen to them and I feel like they're pretty accurate.
Definitely high up on the priority list, guess-mixing sucks ass.

>MIDI controller
Akai MPK Mini mk2
It does its job but in retrospect I should have gotten something with more keys instead of falling for the meme pads and knobs, I basically don't use them at all.
Still incredibly useful, can't imagine going back to clicking in melodies with mouse.

>microphone
A 100$ USB condenser mic that I bought a year ago for youtube. It's not bad but it has some noticeable background noise that I have to filter out with plugins.
I wanna record a lot more but the filtering is so tedious that I end up not using it at all right now. Gonna buy a proper xlr mic soon hopefully.

>audio interface
None yet, but I'll get a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 with the Rokits.

>Instruments
Acoustic guitar + electric guitar
Can't use either right now because I only have the shitty USB condenser mic to record the acoustic and no interface to plug the other one into.

>other stuff
Too poor to afford anything else atm.

I've got plenty of synths, and a guitar. Don't need any more amps either.

Essentially, I'm the kind of guy who has or buys everything he needs, so when people ask me what I want for chrimbus, I never know what to tell people.

Also, most production related things I want are beyond the price range of a reasonable gift.

I broke one of my keyboard stands at a gig in Duluth, so I might ask for one of those Ultimate Support Apex stands.

blog time, yay

>DAW
Sequoia 12, PT12HD
fuck avid, but the world revolves around protools sessions so you need to have it
I got a good deal for the licence only so I didn't have to buy some of their laughable hardware to get the HD version

>monitors
EMES black HR & ADAM sub10mkII, Spendor BC1A BBC, Genelec 1024b I can't set up because my room is too small

>MIDI controller
I recently used my stage piano with a screen clamped to it and a wireless Wacom tablet as a makeshift software instrument workstation and I really like it so far, pic related
I had all the other shit like a full 24 fader MCU set, tried the euphonix artist thingys and the hyped old Tascam us2400 but sold it all cause it helped me nothing but to clutter the desk

>microphone
I got some stuff, I can easily track a chamber orchestra or a big band with my mic drawers
my favorites are the MD421 for dynamics and the U47FET for large condensors

>audio interface
Fireface UFX

>Instruments
I'm a guitarist

>other stuff
mobile recording setup using the UFX and two Octamic XTC (20 preamps)
hueg setup with the Soundcraft Si1+ and two Madiface USB (48 preamps, 2x64 i/o)
I also use the latter for various FOH jobs, especially touring with a band for a year and a half now. it was my first time being able to build a fixed FOH concept for a band around that desk, making sure it's easy enough to use all the plugin inserts I want, managing clicks and backing tracks and still being able to record that shit in multitrack every evening (even with full redundancy for important shows)
being a FOH engineer sucks pretty hard, though. I don't want to do this full time for random bands I don't care about. this is kinda special because I've known them for a long time and also did all the records and stuff

I been collecting for years. My whole thing has been to slowly collect stuff, and I just about never sell/part with anything. Everyone I know sells stuff on a fairly regular basis, and then ends-up buying stuff on a fairly regular basis. Anything I don't use I hang onto and in a couple years I'm using it again.

Wait for deals, research thoroughly and know exactly what you need/want, and get it. I hate having stuff that's almost identical in performance, or overlaps something else, because the first thing I bought wasn't 100% right so I had to buy another one. It's happened with mics a couple times where I went cheap and they disappointed me so I had to spend a little more on the exact same kind of mic, when I should have gotten the right one in the first place. My Leslie cost me $50 on CL (pic related), my Hammond was $50 on CL as well.

I still have my first MXL 990 and Nady CM88s from like 15 years ago, and I still use them! Slowly getting a studio together doesn't have to be an exercise in obnoxious gearfaggotry. Just takes time and care is all.

I noticed that some of the high ranged frequencies are too much and there is too few of low end but I don't really care to be honest, since I can just kick back and listen to some gangsta ass shit *p-funk synth line kicks in" hahaha
Joke I just don't want to frickle around with that stuff anymore and proceed further with making more and better tracks or similar tracks or whatever since I already released this song on my official website (haha this sounds so cool, better than "my wordpress blog" or some stuff like that hahah)

Make new shit and then revisit your older projects 3-4 weeks later, just listen to them again and usually you'll come up with things to add and maybe take it in a totally different direction that you originally planned.

Don't have the money for any right now and I honestly don't know how I'd fit them in to my setup

Plus I'm fine just mastering stuff on headphones right now, I'm only making music for fun anyways

Really makes you think.
>>
>>68926614

I don't know how you came to this conclusion but here is my explanation: I see music as a profession and the only reason why I always wanted to pursue a career at all was getting girls, a wife or whatever which is the most basic and natural thing in the world because in this world you have to do something in order to show females that you're worthy. Even snails procreate in a natural way and they're homosexual, think about it.

I had more sex in my life than you. Pussy. Heterosexual intercourse with women. Licking pussy, fucking pussy. Pussy juice. Vaginal fluid. Licking pussy.

Is it actually true that this page runs with a subliminal homosexual connotation? And is the gif an allusion to your schizophrenia?

Hey guys, you have any tips on how to into lyric writing? I'm trying to put together a nice and shitty garage rock-esque tune, but I'm having trouble coming up with "lead vocals." I'm assuming I should figure out the "tune" the vocals should go on before the actual "lyrics" right? Does everything need to rhyme? How much sense do lyrics need to actually make? Any discussion or input would be much appreciated
