I wanna try and learn how to make beats on FL Studio. I've had the demo downloaded for a while now and have watched some basic youtube tutorials but I'm basically a beginner.
I'm interested in making J Dilla/Nujabes/ knxwledge type beats, especially that lofi jazzy hip hop sound.
Where should I get started?
Watch tutorial vids on youtube
Download sound kits
Don't use patterns if you don't want that sterile repetitive sound, rather use your keyboard or better a midi
try starting in FL studio

literally just find a nice jazz song, cut it up and add some kicks and snares

Do the worksheets, read the book. Basically, if you're having trouble with a worksheet reference the book.

are you gonna be selling your beginner beats in mass volumes?
nujabees wasn't even popular enough to sue and he blatantly samples ahmad jamal, luiz bonfa...

drum kits + other non drum sounds

I think it isn't about how popular you are *in a way*. It's about what kind of cunt happens to stumble on your beats and finds out you used 5-10 sec loop of his music and decided to go trough the trouble to sue your ass for some shekels.
Selling the beats only affects on the price tag you get stamped with.

>don't use patterns
literally the worst advice ever
All that shits sampled so get crate digging or get really good at jazz piano and get good vstis

doesn't just have to be jazz, could be blues, rock, R&B, classical, flamenco. Really anything that keeps a steady 4/4 pattern is easy as fuck to chop up. But to learn anything other than simple loops takes a lil bit of practice.
