>tfw no one understands the brilliance of Marvin Gaye
It upsets me that when I say I'm a fan everyone thinks I just love the 'let's get it on' cheese.
I know he belongs to a certain era which was very cheesy, but when you take into account how many instruments he played, how much time he spent obsessing over his songs in the studio and how great his voice was, you'll see why I think he was one of the most talented song writers ever.
Only thing that let him down was the shit lyric writing.
You probably won't like it, but why not: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UpNISVciWMs

did you ignore everthing in my post? i know soul is shit, but marvin gaye was a victim of his era.

He was just a singer. An amazing song nonetheless, but did Al Green produce it, play and write all the parts? No man.

It's not always about that, at the end of the day Marvin Gaye's b sides sounds like the first level of Sonic the hedgehog at best

Funny comparison. I don't know what it is but I really love everything Marvin Gaye made. I think the fact I love his voice might take precedence over the fact that his music may have been sub-par.
This is one of my favourites of his, again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYL7EkNYSPE

I find it rather unfair that you calm soul "shit". Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but Soul is very much a product of it's time. There's plenty of good material within that genre's catalogue, as there is plenty of awful music.

I know what you're saying, but soul has a certain element to it which is frankly quite cringy, for a middle-class white boy to listen to. It is inescapable.

More middle class white boys should listen to soul. It's much less cringy than the usual indie and emo garbage they listen to.

I agree with this.

Love Marvin Gaye, but like many pop stars I wonder how much of the best songwriting he was responsible for? For example, as I understand it, he had only minimal contributions to the composition of What's Going On.

yeah but this is a /mu/ opinion, try saying you love soul to normies, You look like an autistic faggot
