whats /mu/ thoughts on video game music?
do you consider it real music? do you like it?

>do you consider it real music
Of course
>do you like it
Most of the time it's shit, but certain games have charming or nostalgic music that is really nice, but not something I'd sit down and listen to without the game. Runescape has the best videogame music in my opinion.

Of course bro.
I listen to ambient music from the deus ex human revolution gamerip at least once a week

Yes, why is this even a question

I consider 4'33'' as real music, so...
>do you like it?
If it's good, yes. Many games, though, have a soundtrack that only works while you're playing the game. The number of games whose music actually functions well outside of the context is low.

Akira Yamaoka is one of my favorite musicians.

There's that big dude in my lectures who wears a shirt with a wall of text on the back that goes something like "We the Gamers of the world demand..." followed by various demands like finished games and other industry stuff. OP's pic reminded me of him.
I like when you're in a snow level and snow music starts playing, or in a desert level and desert music starts playing. Seriously, it's nice how music can evoke imagery and video game OSTs are often good at that.

Of course it's real music.
Hell, one of the things that got me into music was Silent Hill's OST, of all things...

Gustavo Santaolalla.
Of course there's good videogame soundtracks
How do you think /v/ would react to a ost purely based on samplings and remixes of already existing albums
Video Game soundtracks are one of the places you can find music free from narcissistic pretensions. It's just pure music in most cases.
FFXIV has a great soundtrack

Anything else like this?
Hitoshi Sakimoto is and will always be to me the best video game composer. I adore his work on Vagrant Story and Final Fantasy XII. No other composer comes close to the feel he conveys.

Video game music is quite similar to movie music, in that most of it is crap. The only video game soundtrack I listen to sometimes is the We Love Katamari OST.

Haha, what? Video game music nowadays is at the complete opposite end of the spectrum, i.e. by the numbers bland orchestral stuff. You can't even name five vg composers that each have a unique sound.

Gautier Serre did some Path of Exile music, and is also behind Igorrr, so there's that.

>real music
What the fuck are you talking about?
Played Diablo one recently. Its a great dark ambient soundtrack

Not speaking for all of /v/ here, but if it's a game where music's important and it makes sure to have a wide variety of good stuff, then I'd think that'd be dope as hell.
