>Post-Punk Revival is shit and got nothing to do with post-punk music
Prove me wrong
>You can't
Interpol, Kaiser Chiefs, The Sounds, Franz Ferdinand, and The Strokes are all god tier 00s alternative.
Post-punk or not, Interpol, YYYs, and Strokes' debuts are all essential 00s
>>68655312
>>68655361
Interpol is just a capitalist version of joy divsion
>>68655420
Double Echo, Winter Severity Index, Starcontrol, Void Vision, L'Avenir, Death of Lovers, Soror Dolorosa, Decades, Kindest Cuts, Cold Cave, Dream Affair, Luminance, Body of Light, Be Forest...
>>68655420
They have way more in common with The Chameleons than Joy Division.
>>68655261
This was AOTY 2003
Post-punk revival bands just tried to sound like their favorite post-punk bands but didn't have any of these adventurousness or experimentalism that post-punk had.
>>68655261
Only Interpol and Strokes are good in that list
>>68655312
>Kaiser Chiefs
>good
>>68655261
Why do most of these bands, (providing that they aren't shit to begin with) hit their peak with their first albums, and then go completely downhill?
I kinda like the first minute of Take Me Out by Franz Ferdinand but when it gets to the chorus I don't care for it anymore.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhCXAiNz9Jo
>>68655649
Kaiser Chiefs' first album had some genuinely pretty good songs on it
>>68655569
Neither the energy or the raw sound
They are just a Pop version of what post punk looks on the outside.
The Killers versio of shadowplay for proof
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrbKvxGgFfg
>>68655681
Strokes has the most consistent discography in that pic. Their worst album (Angles) is still a 7/10
>>68655723
This Killers' cover is garbage. I don't know why people like it so much
>>68655613
Interpol, yes.
Strokes, no.
I LIKE Yeah yeah yeahs...
They have good music, man.
The others... meh, It bores me. Can't get through the entire albums.
>I still can't make it through an entire Strokes album without just switching to a podcast or something and I don't even have ADD.
>>68655420
>>68655438
and R.E.M. to be honest
>>68655613
Franz Ferdinand is pretty good
>>68655698
No shit, right?
My girlfriend and room-mate "took me out" to see them as the headliners and I was not into it at all. But the opening act were TV on the Radio and Hot Chip and they were WAY better than Franz Ferdinand. Granted, Franz F. was more polished and tight than the others but the material just wasn't there for me. It was like watching Duran Duran in their RIO era...
I dunno, I'm getting old, I guess.
>>68655261
>bloc party
they made a great debut album and then went downhill. now they are at the very bottom from what I have heard.
they are no "revival" though. they have been around for long. and they sure are not post punk.
>>68655812
Because people are wannabe fucks.
They say they love Joy Division but they actually prefer The Killers, so when they listen to The Killers version they can say shit like:
Best cover ever after the passengers... But no one can be better than IAnNNN RIP sadboypng.
>>68656136
this, a true new order fan would admit they made good music but it aged horribly for the most part apart from some god tier songs
>>68655723
Wow. That was totally gay-tarded. I didn't even know that existed until watching your link.
How did this happen?
I saw "Control" in the theater and that song wasn't a part of it at all. Not even the end credits (Atmosphere).
Huh... Well, I suppose they can enjoy their participation trophies.
And I like the Killers... (original stuff).
>>68656170
New Order? Don't let me start on fucking New Order... I like them, but fuck they aged very bad.
Not the music per-se but the group I heard them live in 2012... What a fucking shame... Hooky and the lights it's worse tho the guy can't fucking sing
>>68656170
I'm a New Order fan, still.
And I still listen to Joy Division (especially this time of year) but Joy Division was so sparse and the production stripped down the music so much that it is kind of "timeless". Whereas New Order... that shit gets dated real quick. Especially their latest efforts.
>wish they weren't so lazy, anymore
>>68656330
New Order fan here
Their last album was tight as fuck tho.
The problem is how they are playing live these days.
My fucking god, Hook and lights and New Order they sound more like a tribute band than anything else.
Bernie singing live is so fucking bad with the yelling
>>68655261
post-punk revival was mostly shit, but you have to admit most of those bands are just less talented copies of gang of four or early wire, with obvious exceptions like interpol (who have even more to do with post-punk as far as influence goes)
>>68655420
>>68655438
>They have way more in common with The Chameleons than Joy Division.
they have a lot in common with both, and wouldn't exist without either
>>68656299
Ha!
That picture looks like a bunch of high-school teachers.
With each new New Order album that comes out there are about two or three good songs that I put into a compilation for my mp3 player. The rest are trash. Man, I miss the days of tracks like "Angel Dust" and most of "Movement" and "Sunrise" and all that stuff...
>I'm babbling, sorry...
>>68655261
Turn On The Bright Lights
Silent Alarm
Franz Ferdinand
It's Blitz!
Is This It
House of Jealous Lovers
Bow + Arrows
Humbug
They are fine albums.
>>68656470
> Didn't ask for feels desu...
> It's gonna be alright...
The one thing that I don't understand is why the fuck hooky went away... They survived the front man suicide at the joy division time, they survived the hacienda, the factory record failiure, a split in the 90's... I thought the could resist some fight inside the group
>>68656427
You just reminded me: I had to replace my crashed hard-drive so I am rebuilding my music collection and that's one that is missing. Thanks!
I cannot agree with you more. About the live yelling and the idea that they are more of a tribute band.
There is a franchise here in the U.S. that does casino shows with pre-fab music of the 80s and so-called "nerd rock" who do a better job than New Order. But I guess part of the charm of New Order was that they could just BARELY pull it off. Then they got old and lazy...
>>68656660
Weird, right?
Hooky claims that he got all sober and righteous and stuff but all those interview photos I've seen of him he's out front of a pub with a beer in hand. I dunno, maybe just a beer is sober for him... to each their own.
But you do bring up a good point.
Seems fairly petty.
Especially when you've got a cash-cow going on.
>>68655784
lolno
>>68655649
KC is pretty fun but aged like shit.
>>68656605
>almost all are debut albums
>>68656660
I swear there's always some internal feuding in practically all these working class British bands
I hope they get over it, but they talk like people getting over a nasty divorce after a long marriage.
Have you read their autobiographies?
>>68655613
The Sounds are by far the best band in that pic.
>>68655649
>one of the best bands of the 00s
>not good
Shit taste friendo
>>68655261
>Interpol
>Strokes
>Bloc Party
>Arctic Monkeys
>Yeah Yeah Yeahs
>Killers
All these bands have at least one great album
>>68655261
These bands are better than most of the original Post Punk bands though.
>>68657661
Fuck yeah desu
They talk a lot of shit about each other.
Especially Hooky about Bernard.
Now Stephan morris one is coming out soon... I think the human drum machine is gonna clear thing out
>>68658247
THIS!
>>68658247
AHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Yeah go back to the kpop thread now
>>68658533
didn't know they had autobiographies...
huh...
Will check it out.
>yeah, they're a bunch of whiney bitches after about a decade of being together
>>68658247
This. The meme that Joy Divison, Television, Wire, etc. are anything more than okay late 70s alternative needs to die.
>>68659285
Terrible taste, anon.
>>68659285
I'd say that Joy Division was more than okay.
Especially towards the "Closer" era.
Other than that, I agree with you.
>>68659307
I like all three of them, but most of the bands in OP's pic made better music.
>>68659324
I'm curious why you think so.
>>68659324
>musicianship
>trained in some form
>>68659348
>>68659349
It's totally imo, but I prefer the pop sensibilities of the bands in OP's pic. There is more energy behind their music. I wouldnt even call it post punk at all. More new wave if you ask me. Most original post punk bands just seemed like they were edgy and wanted to get back at the establishment that promoted punk in the first place. (see Public Image Ltd.)
I also prefer original new wave to original post punk.
>>68659438
I wouldn't call Television or Wire particularly "edgy."
>>68655261
All "revival" bands are shit.
>>68659324
Fucking awful taste holy shit
>>68659557
Explain why
>>68659548
>only original artists are good
