>mfw "record" has two different pronunciations depending on context

>REEEEEEEEEEEEEcord

So you can distinguish between the verb record and the noun record
Don't you pronounce "vinyl record" more like "rekerd", and "recorded audio" like "rek-orrd"?

Yeah
Hey man I'm gonna go record for my record
>>68649568
record records

It makes sense, you pronounce the re- prefix in the verb because that's what it means; to play something again
The meaning of the re- prefix in the noun is lost, therefore you don't pronounce it
Note I'm not a linguist, so I'm pretty much taking an educated guess

I am, and it has more to do with verbs having a different stress pattern than nouns in general.
