He explicitly says that the act of listening to their music, their riffing and stylised sound is grating on him and becomes "mind numbing." How can you "get" something, in the sense of being into and appreciating it, while describing it as bad, and then wishing they would progress away from it?

If he doesn't like the sound, he should make clear that he doesn't like the sound, instead of lambasting an album that delivers on that sound strongly.

He doesn't like the Meshuggah sound, and that much is blatantly obvious. This album doesn't set itself apart from the others in that way, so the only conclusion we can draw from this is that he listens to Meshuggah for other reasons than their signature sound.

HERE'S THE TRUTH ABOUT MESHUGGAH AND ALL OF DJENT:

It's industrial metal in the vein of Fear Factory, but without memorable riffs, and without quotable lyrics.

Some grooves hit the mark, but almost by chance, it's like there's no selection process, like they don't filter out the boring riffs to only retain the catchy and hard-hitting one. It's almost atmospheric in approach, except it actually has a weaker atmosphere than your average Ministry album.

THIS is what sets them apart from many famous bands that never change their formula: at least those bands try to write songs that will stick with you. And when they don't, they get shit on.

So Meshuggah deserve all the hate they get and so do their copycats.

Really, Anthony does nothing to explore why this album doesn't deliver. All he does is complain that Meshuggah does not innovate enough as a band, and then complain about how their sound is bad.

This could do well to describe a general distaste for the band, but it does nothing to get into whether this is a good album or not. People who care, and have taken the time to review the album as is, mostly have favorable views to varying degrees.
