>When people call music pretentious
This really shouldn't bother me as much as it does but man it makes my autism flare up. I don't even care if they're right or not, it just strikes me as a lazy way of saying they don't understand something so it must be bad.
the only music that I've heard called pretentious is The Disintegration Loops
Same, but whenever they dismiss dark music as edgy. Reveling in darkness is kind of the point.
I hate it when douchy indie fags are listening to some faggy CD in their car and end up driving off the road into a tree off the highway. It goes to show that they shouldn't try to imitate the style of fucking truck drivers and think it's cool.

I agree. Pretentious and edgy aren't real critique in my opinion, and should really have an impact on how music is perceived. Whether it be putting on corpse paint, singing about suicide, or experimenting with wank sounds, it shouldn't be considered pretentious or edgy.
Jef Whitehead from Leviathan put it nicely in that One Man Metal documentary, that behind the angry kid screaming depressing shit there is some truth.

I mean sometimes that's the only word you can use to describe something. How else would you describe Dream Theater's or Nightwish's music?
