So I want to get into Bruce Springsteen, simply due to how much of an influence he was to the sound of The Protomen's Act 2 which I absolutely love.
What should I look into by him? Cream of the crop albums?
Every album until Tunnel of Love

Start with Born to Run, then Darkness on the Edge of Town.

People have put together various "full" versions of the Darkness album, with all the known outtakes and songs that got bumped to The River and so on. One of those might be a good place to start.
Or start with this well-known 3-hour 1978 concert from the Darkness tour:

Nebraska.
The River sounds like E-Street Band playing Polish Polka wedding tunes to me.
born to run > born in the usa > darkness on the edge of town > nebraska > the river > everything else

Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.
I absolutely can't stand Born in the USA
But Born to Run, The River, Nebraska and Darkness on the Edge of Town are so good.
I can't explain it
Holy shit this is the first time I've ever seen anyone mention Protomen on this board
Those guys rule, they're from my hometown.
Also Springsteen rules
Other anons are right, Born to Run is best to start, and probably the closest to Act 2. Darkness on the Edge of Town, which came out directly after, is my personal favorite album. Born in the USA is worth listening to for its synth-heavy elements. I love Greetings From Asbury Park for its folky, Dylan sound but that might not be what you're looking for.
Wow, I didn't realize how good looking he is.
