"I will give a 10 to the first rock album that can compete with the greatest masterpieces of classical and jazz."
>inb4 he didn't say that
Yes he did:
http://www.scaruffi.com/music/letters.html
In Italian, under the section where he answers why he rarely gives ratings higher than 8.
I feel he should've gave In The Court of the Crimson King a 9/10, it honestly deserves it.
Rock is babby shit.

t. regular /mu/ poster

Seems you dropped something.
>>68283252
but he literally said TMR was more significant than every jazz album
>>68283942
Nah, he thinks The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady is more significant.
>>68283252
Italian here, I can confirm.
Here is the quote:
>Il 10 me lo riservo per il primo disco di musica rock che mettero` insieme ai capolavori della classica e del jazz.
>>68284165
Can you translate? Google Translate translates it as this: "10 me to reserve the first rock album that mettero` along with masterpieces of classical and jazz", which doesn't seem to indicate what OP is saying.
>>68284308
How does that NOT indicate what OP is saying?
>>68284308
>"I'm reserving the 10 for the first rock music album that i'll put among the masterpieces of jazz and classical"

all critics should rate music this way. all of the albums of even .5 increments away are so distinctly different in his ratings. critics who give a ten every fucking year are retarded, according to pitchfork, mbdtf must be as good as beethoven. fuck that
this is someone who thinks type o negative had one of the all time greatest albums and limp bizkit was better than sergeant peppers or abbey road
>>68283252
He's giving jazz too much credit. Although he might rate Black Saint and the Sinner Lady as a 10/10 (doesn't deserve it IMO), I seriously doubt he'd give as many high ratings to jazz as did with rock music.
He literally has TMR above every jazz album except Black Saint.
TMR confirmed 10/10.
>>68284745
Read the teaser.
>>68284604
but type o negative did...
>>68284865
peter steele was a talented composer, and it shows, but the album is basically just a goof he wrote in his basement for carnivore after his girlfriend cheated on him and he failed at offing himself
then he formed type o with a noisey guitarist and a keyboard player and oh suddenly it's a gothic industrial masterpiece, yeah right
>>68284792
but as the op said, he's never given a rock album a ten because none have been as good as classical and jazz, implying that there are several classical and jazz compositions and albums that are tens. But he says nigh every jazz release ever is less significant than TMR, even Rock Bottom and Faust. HACK CONFIRMED
>>68285087
nothing you said proves that it isn't
>>68283368
It used to be.
>>68285357
i'm saying it's just well made crossover thrash with electronic and noise elements thrown over it, and doesn't deserve to be taken half as seriously as it usually is
it just never struck me as anything more than the sum of its parts
>>68285339
Scaruffi has great insight with regard to art but he cant into logic and consistency.
>>68285457
That's a nice OPINION, anon.
>>68285523
yours too
obviously i can't "prove" anything, i'm not trying to, that's just my two cents
what does he consider as a 10 for jazz/classical?
>>68283368
fucking kek no, only the first song is good
>>68286244
>what does he consider as a 10 for jazz/classical?
Beethoven's 9th
The Black Saint And The Sinner Lady
>>68286357
>The Black Saint And The Sinner Lady
he didn't give this a rating
>beethoven
what a pleb
>>68286395
he does not rate jazz or classical because it's disrespectful
>>68286395
he didn't give any jazz or classical, he just implied it with the OP quote and also this >>68284745
>>68286427
>he didn't give any jazz or classical
*give any of them a rating
>>68286417
>too scared to rate blacks
what a cuck
>>68286417
>>68285488
how could it ever be possible to remain consistent when you review so much shit over so many years?
>>68286486
I think he's burning out too. He's not reviewing as much rock music as he used to.
>>68286581
>tfw he hasn't panned painting with or AMSP yet
>>68286619
Don't hold your breath. He often waits for an entire year to pass before posting his reviews/ratings for a given year. We will probably get his reviews/ratings for 2015 at the end of this year and his reviews/ratings for 2016 at the end of next year.
>>68284651
he gave it a 9.5, same with Love Supreme
>>68286894
source?
>>68284745
this is very odd. "Most significant" could mean most important or most influential, but then Meredith Monk on that list would be laughable. It could just mean best, but then he puts jazz albums that are from the very same page lower than they are on his list
>>68283252
>one of his letters mention his giving TMR a ridiculously high score only because a group of five Italian critics had it rated that way
>tries to defend his getting lazy with some of the musicians thus getting further away from his intention of analysis
>still says shit like the 10/10 will the be the one that COMPETES with greatest classical/jazz when he has not only admitted to not knowing his shit in terms of critically analyzing classical/jazz but also implies that he places higher importance on ranking than critical analysis
