>band stays the same genre their entire career
I don't get how this happens. Aren't musicians more interesting in just one kind of music?
alot of people i know only enjoy playing only one genre
>>68281527
Some artists (everyone you listen to xdddddd) aren't talented enough to shift genres.
>>68281527
phil shifts all the time? or unrelated and sadpost?
Like ween for example
Who the guy with the red shirt?
>>68281527
I know a lot -bands- that stay roughly the same genre for their entire career, some of the individual artists in the band will have other bands and side projects where they have a different sound and get that creative urge that way rather than trying to shoehorn it into the band that has an established sound.

stop making me sad dude
>>68281527
>>68281793
Some artists value artistic merit/mastering a certain sound or genre over beingtalentless hacks that prioritize being as eclectic xD as possible
>>68282521
it was just an unrelated picture. from what I know I thought he mostly made acoustic and fuzzy sad stuff what are you referring to that is different
>>68282563
Ween does a good job at it and its weird because it seems to be comedy bands like them, wierd al, that superhero ska band that genre hop the most
>>68282668
if you are good at theory it shouldn't really matter what genre you are making because its as simple as changing little things
>>68282678
he's kind of done black metal, composed string quartet stuff, written an afro-influenced concept album, a fully in box autotune based album, multiple joke songs, covered lil wayne
>>68282722
if your career can be summed up as a series of simple genre changes you're probably not making very interesting work
>>68281527
I understand what you mean. If I were a musician I would want to branch out, but I think it's really just a matter of preference honestly. Some people like sticking to one thing and perfecting it. Some people like to be more creative and adventurous.

So basically genre hopping sucks
Genre hopping generally turns out poorly. Case and point: Boris.
Only one or two good albums, the rest are mediocre and provide nothing of value to the genre.
>>68281527
Why post a picture of Phil for this topic? He's probably the least relatable to what you want to discuss. Wind's Poem and Dawn are two albums only separated by a year and are completely different in every way possible. Clear Moon and Ocean Roar were released in the same year and are also much different from each other.

>covered lil wayne
link? how have I not heard of this

Flood. Feedbacker. Only two solid albums.
Amplifier Worship is mediocre.
Their stoner albums are mediocre even for a mediocre genre like stoner.
Their dream pop albums are kinda fun and catchy but mediocre.
Their noise rock albums are just awful.
