Fantano gets a lot of fucking hate by oldfags and a lot of love from newfags. Personally I like the guy (mediumfag here). His opinions for the most part are very well thought out and are relayed to the audience in a very clear efficient way. Even if I disagree with him, I still can understand why he feels a certain way and sometimes he has motivated me to give an album another try from another perspective (main reason for watching his shit).

The downfall of Fantanos fanbase are those that watch his videos for validation of their OWN taste, or the people that take his opinion as law and if he loves it "it must be great". Main example of this for me that springs to mind is that god awful Charli XCX ep he reviewed and gave it an 8/10, that shit will never be more than a 4/10 (ON THE BEST DAY EVER) to me. He offers a different opinion and one that you can rely on for being well thought out.

I agree with you for the most part (especially about his awful fan base) but this review was not an example of his opinion being well thought out. He didn't give any valid or even understandable reasons for disliking it. The worst part is how he acts like his opinion is objectively correct (like how some fucking meme music reviewer on YouTube gets to decide whether or not an album is unfinished). Also I thought it was funny when he said Age of Adz was Sufjan's folktronica opus and then said 22, A Million paled in comparison when he gave them the same score. I'm noticing more and more how little effort he puts into his album reviews. For the majority of the albums, it's clear he only listens to them once before reviewing it and for almost any album one time is not enough to fully appreciate it. First time I noticed was with his Painting With review. I think most people who enjoy that album can agree you appreciate it more the more times you listen to it. I like his videos mostly for albums/artists I've never heard of or don't care about.

They're a great band and keep pushing their sound to new limits and directions, but the "core" of their sound, the industrial hip hop style they make is hardly original or unique.
