Why does music sound objectively better with rain in the background? It started to rain outside just as I was listening to pic related and it was the GOAT experience. I can't listen to it the same without rain now.

Assign a number to the relaxation value of music and the sound of rain.
Music: 5
Rain: 3
By adding the two values together, you get 8. In addition, rain isn't an obtrusive noise. Some noises might be relaxing, but also obtrusive. For instance, having two albums playing at once, one with a relaxation value of 5 and one with 3 won't add up to 8, but will detract from the experience.

Pretty sure Clementine has a feature that puts rain in the background but I could be wrong
Also great album anon
>tfw my headphones isolate too well to hear the rain

You're not wrong. There are also a couple of other effects.

Obviously completely unscientific on my part, but it's a good dumbed down explanation of whatever principle would actually explain it.

It simulates vinyl.
also maybe because rain is evocative of a certain mood or memories or something like that to you and they fit the music, and the music heightens them in turn
something like the way some music sounds better while dancing to it at a party

This. You haven't experienced comfy yet if you don't listen to albums in vinyl. Especially when they're used enough that they crackle nicely but not in an annoying way.

More like vinyl simulates rain.
