hey boys. i have to write a paper about a work of art and describe what influenced the work and how it shows. i want to do a song (can't do a whole album) because music seems like the perfect medium for this. i was thinking of paranoid android maybe, but does anyone have any other suggestions that could be good?

Nirvana, early 90's, Grunge fashion
le sacre du printemps
Anything from SMiLE. It's pretty much a hodgepodge of American music styles.

>op specifies s/he wants to do a song
>anon posts an instrumental piece
if i recall nothing influenced paranoid android, was a completely random song.
instead of asking for others opinions, think what song moves you which you feel passionate about to write a song on, one which perhaps has some underlying themes or a key message worth waffling on about

the multiple sections show a prog influence, but i need at least two influences showing. i think i'll do the national anthem if i can't think of anything else.

>anon shrugs shoulders
try picking a 90's indie/alt rock song and you could probably talk about the influence from sonic youth, dino jr and pixies
you could take a Jay Zee [sic] song like Hard Knock life, talk about what it samples, where its ideas come from, then the influence it had, then the backlash against JAY Zee from Public Enemy
that'd work

there are radiohead songs more obvious in showing what their influences are... any of the first five songs on tkol can be described as krautrock with idm influences. they made it by jamming and recording it and messing with it on turntables. i'm sure you can find more influences on that record too.
ful stop and tinker tailor from the new album are also wrought with obvious influences. the new b side too
