Jesus christ. The upset over this album is so clearly men so insecure in their masculinity that they can't appreciate heavy pop elements.

Just so you know, I enjoy the album and it isn't just because it's 'fun,' it's because it's got the same thing every Grimes album has, which is playful production, emotion, and a subtle vein of subversion; it's just that this time the subversion happens to be her own material.

The fact she has very cloying rap in a song with brutal screaming and that Kill V. Maim is so ardently Britney Spears, as if you infected a lip-sync console with a virus, isn't unintentional; it's the fucking point, and everyone being repulsed have zero ability to analyze creative choices.

Can't wait until Pitchfork gives it BNM and the environment on /mu/ changes as each drone alters in turn their sheepish tune.

This album will rival Carrie & Lowell and TBAP when it comes to year end lists. I garauntee. This album is a fireball. Every song it bulletproof, in terms of both production and songwriting.
Visions is already herald as one of the best albums of the decade by some. This is a much bigger album than that. She just sounds so strong on this, the confidence is palpable.

Sonically it's here most interesting without a doubt. Yes she incorporates a lot of pop elements, but she makes them uniquely her own. The sound palette she's working with is oddly unsettling; she combines the cutesy dystopic sounds heard in a lot of PC music with really lush instrumentation. It's nostalgic but still very now.

Those calling it pop garbage aren't listening hard enough.

I can't really tell who is being sarcastic in this thread or not, but I really liked this album. I have no real reverence for Grime's past work except for a handful of singles and I love pop music so this was up my alley. I understand people being disappointed, but taken for what the album is, I think it's a really solid pop album. Maybe not a really solid Grimes album, but I won't let that keep me from enjoying this.
