ITT: we post actually good albums that /mu/ likes to shit on for no other reason other than pretentiousness.

Pic related faggots.

one too many other*
>>
A lot of /mu/ likes RAM though, I'll see it as their second best quite frequently
>>
>>53323425
Le edgy teenagers
>>
>>53323425
I have no coherent criticism to give it so I'll just say that it kinda sounds like they're jacking off to themselves. Giorgio by Moroder is a good example
>>
>>53323442
Yeah it's fucking amazing. I think some people don't understand what it is. It's all their influences throughout musical history, every song has it's own unique sound.
>>
>>53323425
It's not danceable, which is normally a terrible criticism but that's their whole shtick, the other albums are fun and uplifting, hell even HAA is danceable as hell, but this feels way too weighed down by the cameos and influences. Also the terrible lyricism is much more noticeable on RAM.

Random Access Memories is a collection of incredibly trivial melodies and beats, the ultimate late-night lounge muzak for a drunk melancholic audience, virtually the antithesis of everything they had done before in the field of electronic dance music. The album is a tribute of sorts to the 1970s, and it includes some of the commercial heroes of that decade (we even get a Giorgio Moroder lecture in the middle of the jazzy and neoclassical jam Giorgio By Moroder), but it is all sterilized and glacially un-emotional. The lightweight disco-era funk of Give Life Back To Music, Get Lucky and Lose Yourself To Dance (that imitate the likes of Chic, which were not exactly Beethoven) betray a colossal dearth of imagination. We don't even get good musicianship, let alone good ideas. There is about one minute in Touch of charleston-like beat with a jovial trumpet: that's as much fun as one gets. These are not laid-back ballads: these are lifeless songs drenched in nostalgia. In the 1970s it was hard to imagine anything more devoid of meaning that a ballad by Hall & Oates or Steely Dan: give it a nostalgic, extremely slow, interpretation and, voila, even the worst of the worst can get worse. The robotic vocals are generally an even worse affront, but Julian Casablancas of the Strokes manages to make them sound human in Instant Crush. Shame on Panda Bear for lending his voice to yet another robotic song, Doin' It Right. A better album would have consisted of the prog-rock instrumentals Motherboard and Contact, which are instead left half-baked.
>>
>implying 2013 wasn't the GOAT year for comeback albums
>>
>>53323658
So what if its not danceable? Every track here is AT LEAST enjoyable.
>>53323660
Yeah i was excepting a scruffles pasta. Reminder that this guy gave Ultraviolence a 7. Same as Laughing Stock and Remain in Light.
>>
>>53323711
yeah but he's right.
1. the whole album is sustained by a clumsy sense of nostalgia.
2. most of the songs are based on simple chord progressions that keep on repeat from the beginning to the end of the songs.
3. the robotic voices are incredibly sickening.
4. the songs are too slow for being considered disco. might it can be better appreciated if heard before going to sleep.

there are some cool bass lines here and there, though.

scruffy pls

RAM was terrible, and no one was more hyped than me for that album. It's not ambitious at all. It's literally just overproduced disco music with some vocoders. They abandoned all of their catchy house influence to make lounge music.
>>
>>53323425
u first
>>
>>53325059
but lana del rey does actually suck
>>
>>53323660
I honestly won't even bother arguing. Too close-minded.
>>
>>53323425
Underrated on /mu/, but it's still not very good. It just feels lifeless at parts (which is funny, because the second half of "Give Life Back to Music" is the worst offender for this). It had some really good songs (Instant Crush, Touch, Doin It Right, and Contact in particular), but it just wasn't alive enough. I don't get people who prefer HAA over RAM, though. It has all of RAM's flaws with none of it's bonuses (great collabs, great style, and a nice nostalgic touch).

>>53323558
Truth.

>>53325059
Lana's persona really rubs me the wrong way (if you wanted to be an interesting femme fatale, then don't align yourself with every stereotype associated with them) and it bleeds too much into her songs, but this was a decent album.

>>53325079
True, but Pinkerton is easily their best.
>>
>>53325156
>implying i wasnt more hyped than you

Nigga pls. I preordered the fucking double LP

/mu/ loves Weezer though.
>>
>>53325195
Depends what day it is... A few people love it but the rest are like "You pleb! It isn't NMH or Death Grips so you are a fag!"

Close minded ass people
>>
>>53325225
All of those are pretty pleb though.
>>
>>53325079
why they say that the blue album is shit?
>>
>>53323425
It's alright, but it's just noticed because it's daft punk. It's an OK funk album
>>53323558
True, but they do have better albums, like Piper and Wish You were Here
>>53325059
But that's just a straight boring album
>>53325079
But a fair chunk of /mu/ likes this album. Pinkerton is better though
This is a good album, but it's nirvana so it's ignored
>>
>>53325225
>depends what day it is
OR there might be different people with different opinions

weezer sucks though
>>
>>53323558
>>53325079
>>53325303
no one says these are shit
>>
>>53325320
Too many people have heard of Weezer and that's why so many people on /mu/ hate it...

Losers here are afraid of liking anything that regular people like. They only listen to Death Grips because that's what the computer (their best friend) tells them to listen to.
>>
>>53323425
I don't think its that good
>>53323558
Absolutely
>>53323679
It an album a lot of people may have a hard time getting into, but I think /mu/ generally likes that album.
>>
>>53325357
>They only listen to Death Grips
It's the 'cool' thing on /mu/ is to dislike Death Grips, looks like youre're wrong again :^)

/mu/ seemed to hate Beck
>>
>>53325398
agreed.
As soon as p4k liked it and Fantano hated it it was obvious /mu/ had to hate it too
>>
>>53325384
The patricians of /mu/ are the ones who hate Death Grips then? While the /mu/ common folks like them?

I'm still trying to figure it out. It seems like praise for Death Grips and Neutral Milk Hotel is the subject of like half the threads while the other half of the threads are just shitting on everything else.
>>
>>53325357
>Too many people have heard of Weezer and that's why so many people on /mu/ hate it...
yep, that's why we think they're bad, because they're popular. keep telling yourself that
>Losers here are afraid of liking anything that regular people like
not really, a lot of people here love popular stuff like TVUN. notice how nobody shits on TVUN? it's because it's a legitimately a good album.
>They only listen to Death Grips because that's what the computer (their best friend) tells them to listen to.
Death Grips are very popular, I know at least 6 people in real life who listen to them and have never heard of this board.

You sound like a youtube comment

>>
>>53325437
the 'patricians' yes. Really, death grips are just aggressive hip hop and the people who dislike them are just as bad as their avid fans
Shitposters are a different breed to everyone else on /mu/, their opinions don't count

losing your virginity to an album sure makes it a good album for everyone. nice argument.
>>
>>53323679

i thought mbv was fantastic, i don't understand some of the hate
>>
>>53326258
There isn't one bad song on the album. There.

Frusciante is on point, his best RHCP.
Lyrics and vocals are fun and stick to the theme of the album
Bass in on point
Drums are on point
Not one bad song on the album
There

>>53323425

Twenty more years of Whitesnake would be a million times better than even five years of post-grunge and the shitty personalities of people who grew up in the age of mainstream alt-rock

I absolutely agree with you. Not only that it's not bad, but it's one of the best of the 90s.
Also, Zooropa.
>>
>>53326645
Honestly I ignored all that crap and now I hear the good things that it actually proportioned... while ignoring technique locked and dated fossils like Slash, the present GnR, Whitesnake, Lita Ford, etc
