How can this song only have 50k views?
>>
>>30927431
It's not bad stuff.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqYUYqao9GM

The problem with Aurelleah is that he ensures that he's always in the midst of a circlejerk and he doesn't talk about much other than himself.
His original music is stifled by Damage loops and reliance on cinematic/"epic" elements like risers, brass swells, and staccato lines that don't aid to support the song's melody.
When he gets criticism, he immediately resorts to "Well, actually, this is the best I can do" and will give you 50 reasons as to why your suggestions are pointless.

I'll never say that my stuff is much better, because I've got a lot to learn myself, but if he'd never gotten popular from Luna's Future, he might've become a better person.
It seems like all he cares about are the views now, and it's disheartening, considering a lot of the orchestral community seems to be following suit to the TSfH-style music rather than seeking to define themselves.

tl;dr He could be better, but he spends too much time talking about himself and his analytics that he can't improve very much as a musician or as a person.

>a lot of the orchestral community seems to be following suit to the TSfH-style music rather than seeking to define themselves
God fucking damn, I hate this. People who do this sound like they're making EDM, but without any of the interesting sound design that good EDM has. TSfH's stuff is very simplistic, but works because they can get a huge sound going. Even the best libraries can't give these amateur producers that scope, so all they're left with is bland, generic melodies that sound like they're trying to get a cheap emotional response from the listener.

I remember when Carbon Maestro was getting big and I was completely unimpressed by his stuff. Several of his songs really toe the line between 'homage' and 'copyright infringement'. It legitimately sounded like he ripped melodies from Invincible and put EWQL stock sounds on them.

Aurelleah is another good example of this lazy approach to orchestral composition. Listen to his remix of 'You're in my Head Like a Catchy Song'. It's just the original song, but he added some transitional glitter and put some cheap 'uplifting' string section behind some of the verses. These cheap effects take away from the simplicity of the song and add nothing in return.
>>
>>30928704
>>30929145
Yeah, I have to agree. But the thing is, he keeps getting away with it, and because of that sees no point in wanting to improve. He did a 'remix' of woodentoaster's beyond her garden some months ago, and literally just remade the song from scratch without even bothering to be creative with it. His luna's future remix is another example of laziness and not adding anything new or interesting to the table. It was just action strikes hits, and spiccato string lines layered over the original. It hit 1 million views too. I can't get over that.

Two Steps from Hell.
It's semi-oldschool cinematic music that you'll find in the background of a lot of youtube videos.
Not bad at all, but it's really generic.

>>30929145
Pretty much hit the nail on the head.
I never understood the thing with Carbon Maestro, either, and it's kinda disappointing to see it happening all over again.
In my talks with Jyc Row, he at least acknowledges that the stuff he makes isn't all that complex, but I see him putting in effort to actually make something different, so I have to give him credit for that.

I doubt the fandom will ever move on, but I hope it does.

When your singing gets louder as part of the tone/emotion you're conveying, you're supposed to get further away from the mic (watch for professionals leaning back limbo-style with the long-hold and powerful chorus notes). The reason for this is that the more volume you sing with, the more your pitch will be lost when sampled, especially if you're singing passionately or "yelly" at the moment.

When you sing for people or alone, nothing is lost--your full set of sound waves are sent out and bounces around the room, so your notes and quality are maintained. But singing into a mic for the purpose of creating a digital music file is VERY different. You have what's referred to as the sample rate--microphones don't hear multiple tonal qualities all at once, they get a general "snapshot" of the overall sound or sounds being picked up at that exact moment and sends the data to a software program. Then when you're done, the computer plays those snapshots all lined up together in roughly the same time it took to sing the full piece. Think of stop-motion filming, but with sound waves. The louder you sing, the more of your voice hits the mic at once, which can cause distortion in the snapshots as the software tries to interpret the overall tones.

The other important consideration is that all microphones and software have a "noise" limit and louder sounds will "clip"--that is, if you sing too loudly, directly into the mic, the software will reach an input threshold and be unable to further approximate the sound, resulting in a loud, choppy noise. Understand that sound capture equipment pickups are all based on magnets reading and interpreting vibrating membranes of various materials and quality. The cheaper the gear, the more likely these membranes will reach a vibration range that's outside of what the magnets that read them can pick up and translate accurately to the software.

Ertrii is pretty great. I got recommended to him from one of these thrads, I think, so I'm going to share. He has a very broad range of genres, and seems to enjoy dabbling in all of them equally.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWWCs3KWq5s

>>30929476
>Is there any reason for this
It's a bit of vicious cycle, but the long and short of it is that it's a desirable sound and it's pretty easy to emulate. Hell, the most popular film scoring sample libraries are in the EWQL Composer's Cloud, and, iirc, most of those individual libraries (Hollywood Strings, Hollywood Brass, Hollywood Woodwinds, etc.) were designed and composed by a team which included Nick Phoenix and Thomas Bergersen; both of whom make up TSfH.

Also, that song is great. The piano is a bit hard, imo, but it all sounds pretty nice and that melody is pleasant af.
>>
>>30929552

Digital sound production is RADICALLY different from the traditional path of a musician. It's a lot more technical and computer/equipment oriented.

So many people fail to grasp that, especially on YouTube. Don't get me wrong, professional equipment gets to be ridiculously expensive, but the number of people who think that you can sing well into a $20 USB mic and create an Mp3 that sounds even halfway decent is way too high.

NO ONE can sound really good on cheap equipment. The greatest artists in the world would sound like amateurs if the wrong gear and high compression are used when creating a track from their digital sample. Pros have their own teams of computer experts and sound producers to do all that for them.
>>
>>30929476
Views and popularity.
Ever since Makkon left, it seems like everyone's trying to hop on the epic orchestral bandwagon without bothering to do more than torrent a sound library that does half the work for them, find a pony picture, and combine the two.
I'm not hounding on them for not being "pony" enough, since I'm guilty of that, too, but it should at least tell a story or have some relevance to the picture chosen.
But it's not about that anymore.

The highest quality equipment
>>
>>30929608

LOL, yep.

Bear in mind, this has nothing to do with the artists' TALENT at all--it's a separate profession entirely. That of using all the tricks of the computer and electronics trade to do your absolute best to create a sound capture from them that sounds as close to the real quality of their singing as possible win a way that isn't going to result is file sizes that go way past the target media.

Samplerates, clipping, distortion and compression on files are what make or break any way of listening to music that doesn't involve literally standing in front of the artist.

>still never write anything for the fandom
>still shit anyways
I'm honestly envious of a lot of the fandom musicians. Even the crappy ones

Just love this one, so haunting

You're not the first one.
Unrelatedly to pony musicians, You will never reach greatness at an art without passion and the more things become boring and mundane the less creative you become, you're action-reward system gets broken.

Probably his best song in my opinion, and I love the solo. And I don't even like Fluttershy that much.

As much as these are 'generic wubs' the visuals and song go so well together in this, full blown original art for a song
Also I really like the song, it's so fucking well done and professional

Even as far as I've gotten, I still don't know how to read or write music, much less understand (or care to understand) much music theory.
It's just something you have to push yourself to do, and then you keep doing it provided you find enjoyment in it.
