We're a bunch of adults, mostly grown men, most of which are autistic, who have become attached to a cartoon show that was initially heavily aimed towards little girl's, and by attached I mean addicted, there are some people who have committed suicide over the show and a large number more that will probably commit suicide when it ends since it is literally the only thing that they find worth living for
Then there's the whole pedophile stigma that comes with enjoying a girl's show not to mention that a vast majority of fans, roleplay, cosplay, (sometimes online sometimes in public) buy merch, and go to cons, and then there was the flood of pony stuff at the beginning of the golden age of the fandom where EVERY FRANCHISE was getting "ponified" which made the entirety of the internet hate us to a point where if you show a pony picture to a website that isn't specifically tailored to fans of the show you'll get autistically screeched at (for example when celebrities, mainly actors, have liked ponified pictures of one of their more well known characters ad the comment section went balistic)
Finally you have this little hive of scum and degeneracy and also autism where we fantasise daily about abandoning real world women in pursuit of plowing pony ponuts, and openly revel in our xenophilia/bestiality
oh course there is a percentage of us that keep our power levels hidden from public eye, have pursued and completed higher education, have jobs and families, these are the most normal of our cesspool of a fandom

bottom line is, the show is good, the fandom in every aspect is shit
I would suggest the show, just try the first 3 episodes to get a feel of what to expect (the premiere is more adventure based, the 3rd episode is more SOL and the show alternates between those two) give it a try, if you don't like it, move on, if you do like it, don't involve yourself with the fandom unless you want to turn into one of us

Part of growing up is taking yourself out from underneath peer and societal pressures and doing your own thing (within limits but that's a different topic). However, there is a difference between not caring what others think and actively seeking conversation about it, as well as publicly expressing your 'bronyism', - aka, as you said, revealing your power level. But that's also a good point - there is a large enough portion of the fandom that are actually autistic enough to go public with their bronyism, which of course is why normalfags have an immediate knee-jerk reaction to the word 'brony'. Horsefucker in the /mlp/ sense allows us to separate ourselves from the default stigma that 'bronies' have.

being in almost the same situation as you just over a month ago (4 years instead of 5 years), the shows still pretty solid IMO, and comparing all the seasons to the first I honestly find S4+5 an overall improvement over S1+2 until S6 takes a dive in quality. S7's pretty good so far though, a bit hit and miss but has some great episodes.

Oddly enough, a dive in quality sounds entertaining in itself to me, although I had recently binge-watched and caught up with Adventure Time, whereas in that case I had been under the impression that it "got worse", but honestly besides fart jokes, I kind of enjoyed the direction that AT took.
