The show has only been getting better since then. Season 5 and season 7 are easily the best two seasons so far.

MLP is an established brand that's been around since the 1980s. Like all long running franchises, there are periods of growth—centering around revivals and new official content—and periods of contractions.
G4 will end some day. Then it will be replaced by G5 after a little time has gone by that brings in new fans. G5 might even have the same characters seeing as how most of the cast come from previous generations too. Some existing fans will hate it, some will love it, and the cycle continues until our lizard overlords see fit to pull the plug on our computer generated hologram simulation we know as reality.

The initial hype died down, and the fandom is nowhere near as loud as it used to be. A large number of content creators such as artists, musicians, and writers have fled and many have deleted their past works. As the show drags on, more and more people are losing interest or are finding new things to complain about.

It's not over yet, but unless the movie is a resounding success I can't see this fandom being relevant 3-4 years from now.
There will still be people around discussing the show but things will just never be the same as they were 2011-2013.

Pretty sure we still produce more art and music than just about every other fandom dude, just cause it's not 2012-2014 volume and it's not all the same people as back then doesn't mean it isn't there.

This is particularly true on the music side of things, people say the fandom music scene is dying because X guy they liked quit, but if they actually looked around, they'd find new people jumping on (with some being good some being bad as in all things) too.
