Pharynx was neither worth that much effort nor powerful enough to even bring that much effort to bear. Glimmer probably wasn't worth that much effort either but she definitely forced the question.

It says something, though, that when Glimmer finally decided that he couldn't just be removed her solution was to stage a catastrophic event that would result in the complete destruction of his entire hive and the end of the peaceful life they knew.

Only Thorax had the right to not give up on Pharynx because he's the only one that knew Pharynx's good side. If Starlight did not give up on Pharynx without that knowledge, it would make her look like a Mary Sue. Just like what she always does in her other episodes.

This was the only episode where Starlight did not bother me at all because she was actually being used as a normal character.

I really liked this episode. I was actually gonna say that this is a good example of Glim Glam the Great saving MLP from itself.

First, OP, it sounds like you wanted multiple episodes dedicated to this. What we got was paced very well for a single episode. I'd also say that it wasn't what Pharynx DID during the episode so much as his absolute refusal to even talk by shutting down all conversation with direct insults, as well as the degree to which the entire hive had not a single redeeming thing to say about him. As soon as Thorax pointed out the good in him, Glim Glam immediately understood and came up with a risky, but direct and frankly correct plan to get the hive to understand him too.

Actually OP, I hate your opinion here. It's like you want Starlight to act like Twilight, but Twilight has been boring for seasons. She grew up and became a princess, but she lost all relatability. Twilight's not flawless, but she's pretty close at this poitnt. In fact, of the mane 6, I find few fun to watch.

Case in point with what's wrong with the show, Pinkie Pie. It's not JUST that she's been flanderized. To me, Pinkie originally was like the spirit of the old shows - I started watching MLP because of how Twilight's skepticism subverted and reacted against Pinkie's singing, optimistic magical beliefs, etc. The show had a self-awareness and edge that later seasons have lacked. I mean, Applejack's parent's are still dead, Scoots is still an orphan, and all... but we knew all that in early days. When have we gotten anything NEW that subverts all the rainbows and sunshine? I can mostly only think of Fluttershy's recent episode where she had to put her foot down against those construction contractors - she had to behave in a very un-pony-like way, and it was a great juxtaposition with the usual happiness and giggles. That juxtaposition is what made the whole show for me.

Starlight going against what Twilight would have done is refreshing and feels like a return to form.
