Anyone else put off by the scaling of these new characters? Pirate bird is freakin huge! Gilda standing doesn't even come close and Gilda is a griffin with part lion in her. What is Calaeno, just a regular bird that stands?
Note non pony, creatures characters in the mlp universe tend to have scaling close to the average pony (Zecora, early Thorax) or near enough (Glida, Matilda). Other than that they are either extremely small (Breezies, Paraspites) or extremely huge (hydra, ursa major).
Calaeno, Capper and others just physically dwarf the main cast, who are suppose to be the star of the show. Can't think of a reason for these proportions.Tempest bullying Calaeno with their size difference looks ridiculous.

little ponies are little.

>Tempest bullying Calaeno with their size difference looks ridiculous.
To be fair, calaeno looks like she doesn't give a shit in that image.
>watching the movie
>>30855438
>little
Not really. We know they were big enough to carry around children on their backs comfortably back in G1. Twilight and Rarity have manhandled boulders I doubt a human could carry; Luna literally crack the ground by smacking it. You need some size for that.
That debate aside though, Gilda and diamond dogs were never this huge.

do people actually believe this? there exist different breeds of horse, ya know
They're about a metre tall (3 ft.)
Give or take.

They're not real horses, you fucking gorilla. Jesus Christ, this insistence on constantly comparing them to their real life counterparts triggers me more than SJW garbage.
>>30855432
I'm honestly fine with Celaeno being 8-9 feet tall.
>>30855432
coincidentally shes the same height my headcanon has humans at.
>>30855432
Parrots are not exactly finches.
>>30855537
you need STRENGTH to do that, and strength and size, while often found together, are not required for each other.
A projectile can crack/break the ground and come from a small gun for example, and ponies have magic powering them to allow for more force coming from them.
>>30855537
Additionally, we have an EQG image of dash and human dash that contradicts that VASTLY.

I said the same thing a while back. It's clear that the wanted to put a little pony in big world vibe based on the concept art in the artbook but it just doesn't work at this scale. It makes the ponies look like a joke compared to their fellow creatures in the world. Compared to Ember or the Diamond Dogs, the new creatures seem completely out of place.
There's something strange psychologically going on. It makes subconsciously feel like the ponies are a joke and not really a dominant race in the world. They're like cute little pets rather than the important protagonists that have created a huge society for themselves.

What this Anon said
>>30856431
I don't know; I always felt ponies had a unique strength that didn't play into being big or strong, for instance the episode you just posted.
But not only that, there was always this theme I felt since the first season, especially in that season. Despite all their progress, there were things just beyond the brush capable of swallowing Equestria and its ponies into its great, hungering maw. Like the Dragon in Dragonshy or many things the deadly Everfree Forest, these threats aren't distant from the meticulously crafted towns, parks, and fields of ponies. That savage world, strange, wild, and harsh, is just over the hill, and sometimes it even comes to you.
>>30855537
That chart is wrong.
>>30856576
I said this in another thread but I'll say it again here. There's this weird thing going on with the human-like proportions of the movie characters that shifts your perspective to them. I have no problem watching a pony stand up to a dragon and being along the ride with them using the pony as a reference point. But when I look at OP's pic, the reference point changes. I am now seeing the world through the eyes of Captain Celaeno since she is a good human analogue. My mind no longer is watching along as Rainbow Dash stands up to a giant scary creature and instead sees this normal human sized creature swordfighting with a tiny pony. It really fucks with your brain compared to the Diamond Dog or a huge dragon where you're always thinking from the viewpoint of the pony because there's no obviously human sized thing present.
Movie finally confirms pones to be perfect carryable snuggle size.
>>30855593
>ywn headbutt a pony in the eye to escape, leaving them blind in one eye
Can't hold back this feeling...
>>30856431
Like you said the little fish big pond concept is poorly executed here. The creatures and threats had the scaling to match the ponies and that universe. If suddenly the average character out of Equestria is Celestia's height than suddenly a manticore appearing in town comes off as less of a threat and more of a nuisance that two or three town people can jump on and just toss out of town.
Wow, the Diamond Dogs were smaller than I thought.
>There's something strange psychologically going on. It makes subconsciously feel like the ponies are a joke and not really a dominant race in the world.
It's not just you. It becomes harder to believe the mane 6 being treated as equals when appearing by their allies. It's like finding an adult taking to a five year old like fellow businessman. Even knowing better it feels ridiculous for ponies to have these lands, and Storm King free, for so long. Especially since we know a little about the economy of these other places.
>>30856631
I thought people considered Ember to human scale for a long time.

>the writers and Faust were purposely this obtuse so little girls and boys would have to find these little "clues" and put it all together with the math on their own instead of just out right telling them
Yeah no. Ex: do you really think a cheetah is a lot larger than a zebra? The scaling is off and exaggerated in many places since it's still a cartoon, And it's much clearer in MLP history and by the current team where the scaling would fall. There are enough clearier hints that the target audience can pick up. Not even sure why you want to ignore G1 where the answer is right in your face. But anyway I'm shelve this argument for another time.
>>30855537
That chart's way off.
regular pone is 3 feet tall on average. Celestia is about 5 feet.

Isn't the pirate captian lady also taller than all of her crew by a pretty significant margin?
>>30858254
Wasn't there this one giga nigga bird that was even taller than she is?

Maybe, I can't remember. But I'm pretty sure even if there is that she's taller than all the other ones but that one.

Ponies are the "hobbits" of their world. Little folks who usually get ignored by bigger races until it hits the fan and it turns out the little folks are a lot more powerful than their size suggests.

Ahh, thanks.
So it seems she's pretty big for whatever she is even, so it's no real surprise that she makes Ponies look small. Especially considering you're comparing a biped to a quadruped...
>>30858159
I'm talking about the scaling of the movie characters and how they don't match with anything in the current universe, even outside of ponies.
But apparently some want to headcanon Applebloom the size of a chiwawa really really badly for some reason.

Don't misconstrue things to ignore others' efforts to discover their precise measurements.
They would be pretty dangerous if they had regular horse mass despite their size.
