Why do bronies think they are such integral part of /mlp/?

Is it really because of bronies that MLP became successful?

MLP fanbase's birth is interesting. When MLP first appeared on /co/ and started triggering barneyfags, people from outside of 4chan came to watch the chaos that ensued. After /co/ exiled the fans, they setup their own fansites from news to boorus, taking both /co/ users and outside watchers with them. /co/'s ironic memes were taken by the new fans unironically, causing dumb meme spouting such as "Love & Tolerance" and of course Bronies. Many people still think the show is about love and tolerance, when that quote never appears in the show in any form and actually originates from reaction cap of Twilight saying "I'm going to love and tolerate the shit out of you", made when barneyfags were severally triggered by pony pictures.

In the early days, boorus had no porn as the normies outside of 4chan's culture had to be taught the rule34, and how it would be better to swallow that fact now, rather than fight against it constantly.

The way cultures of people in and outside of 4chan, united by ironic and unironic love for ponies is interesting, because you basically have 4chan's bully like culture coexisting with autistic victims of bullying trying to find safe haven, under bullies.

Now after many years, the 4chan culture has been rubbed on the Bronies to some extent, but is more identified as brony culture.

When it comes to 4chan's influence on the popularity of the show, its undoubtedly all thanks to 4chan and barneyfags. The triggering of barneyfags inspired the meme to spread ponies around like an plague on internet, making people create content after content. More memes, more pictures and as the fanbase grew, videos, music, animations. It even created a market around fan created pony content. The show itself was influenced by 4chan's passion, naming Derpy among other small touches, and steering the show to a new fanbase of bronies.

The show would not have been popular without /co/. Everyone who watches the show know how repulsive the first step is.

I believe this pictures full version was the turning point of flooding former derpybooru with porn, arguing that a lot great art was unarchived by the ban on rule34.

And those old bastards from MLPG are still here.

*in general.

I ran out of space to further argue 4chan influence, and the big IF of the show carrying on with its own merits. Better shows have been cancelled or lost the writers passion. The major opinion still seems to be with barneyfags and even many of the fans hiding the fact.

We could also imagine how the show would be, had it been kept on live support purely for Hasbro's toy marketing. Something a kind of less popular Transformers. Transformers still has the benefit of being more older and boy orientated.

You can see on the first season of FiM how the animators don't give a fuck, making intentional animation errors or hiding Derpy in the background as inside joke. This doesn't dip the scales to for or against what I said, just gives you a little idea how seriously the show was taken when it started.

>Transformers still has the benefit of being more older and boy orientated.
Aimed for older male audience, not that the show is older than mlp itself.

That's not quite how it happened. When it appeared on /co/, it flooded the board with pony stuff because it was a genuinely good show enjoyed by the posters, there was no irony at that point. It pissed off the other browsers because there was no room for discussion of anything else. It was banished from /co/ and it went straight to /b/, which is where ironic watchers of the show got on board, using ponies as bait because it was even more effective than gore. Pony threads were more heavily moderated, but the growing fanbase on 4chan was too big to be contained to a handful of threads, not to mention mods would deleting mlpg for no reason, causing posters to shit up the board with duplicate threads, sometimes mlpg would even be made on other boards where moderators weren't keeping an eye out.

/b/ronies at around the same time spammed every pony related image they could find into cheezburgers gallery, which caused MLP to be the top trending meme for a year straight. This is the reason MLP has its own subpage on that site, the sheer amount of content drowned everything else and brought it to mainstream attention. From there it spread to other forums and platforms like Youtube, Facebook and Twitter like wildfire, bringing in the normies.

Meanwhile, and later on, Moot created /mlp/ and drew up GR15, the most heavily enforced rule in 4chan's history, even more enforced than CP, in a show of 'Here's your shit, keep it here'. By then, it was too late, Ponies had infected the internet and even drove some people insane who simply couldn't stand that people were having fun.

Most average fans aren't even aware that the entire thing started on this site, or that Love & Tolerate is a countermeme. Since Brony, the former tagline for an MLP fan on 4chan was picked up and used by normalfags, other terms are used to describe us to set ourselves apart from their brand of autism, like /co/lts, ponyfags and the ever famous horsefucker.

I'm not sure how to say it better. There was self-aware irony(?) in liking ponies, which pulled people into it. The realisation you were watching and enjoyed My Little Pony, which made people create and enjoy these "Love & Tolerance" posts, even if done under the influence of /b/. Or how Brony is ment to be this dumb word that stuck. 4chan is said to be contrarian, but how /mlp/ refuses to use the word "Brony" and rather calls themselves Horsefuckers and such, is a kind of meme getting into public domain. Not because it became popular, but because the joke behind was lost.

While, yes, many were shaking their heads at the absurdity of it, FiM actually was a better cartoon than expected at the time, considering the brand it came from and the general pattern cartoons were following then and still.

It's more a case of the irony of what /co/fags considered a quality cartoon coming from the MLP brand of all things. It wasn't as much about it being a girl cartoon as most people think, we expected it would be shit, worse than anything else at the time, and were sorely wrong.

At least, that's how it was for me, gauging peoples reactions at the time isn't easy, we were all gushing about how great the show and setting was and spent little time analyzing ourselves.

As for the Brony tag, it was pretty dumb, but I get endless amusement when seeing normie bronies call themselves 'real bronies, unlike those cloppers on 4chan!'.

>Everyone who watches the show know how repulsive the first step is
wtf

You feel weird when doing it, but it's not repulsive
>>
>>30837465
The scale goes from easily accepting every word that comes out of the horses mouth, to barneyfags. When the Movie trailers came out, I wanted to see the reactions people outside of Bronies had to the Pony Movie, and its a divisive mix of people cringingly kind a wanting to see the movie, or to rolling their eyes to every scene and dialog, and trying to make themselves vomit. There wasn't that many reactions, so I hope once the movie comes out, more people review it.

thats probably because they increased the glittery girl factor by 11 for it, which is weird since theyve been edging more towards a gender neutral advertisement everywhere else.

no it's because hasbro sexualized all the characters that it became successful

At the very least, their asses being onscreen is softcore porn

This is what happens when you tell people that horsefuckers aren't bronies. Now we have guys like this who don't even understand the fandom

You fucking serious nigger? During 2012-2014 /mlp/ was regularly seen as the evil boogieman by the rest of the fandom. Since then the board has pretty much been neutered and slower and not much of a concern anymore.

I'm trying not to look at stuff from the movie because I want it to be fresh and new for me when I see it in theaters.

Man, I love thinking about the fact that I started watching because I had seen the show on my tv guide in the morning before going to bed back in 2011. I approved it with assumptions after only hearing about bronies and not the show and was surprised as he'll when I watched Fall Weather Friends. While I'm not a big sports or athletic person, that episode proved the show wasn't going to be what I assumed it was. Stayed up to watch the next episode and was blown away by Suited For Success's ability to pull me in despite the subject matter. After that I stayed up another hour to download the rest of what was currently out at that time and read a little more about the fandom. Who would have known I would have gotten sucked in so hard and still be around 6 years later.

You're probably going to want to start avoiding the board, then, Anons will be heedlessly spoiling the whole damn thing because some book released.
