Will these really be their new outfits? They're a pretty mixed bag and don't look like daily casual wear. The old designs were complete shit but these look too flashy to be what they'll be wearing every episode.

Since the second movie it has been improving slowly, they seem to be giving more fucks about the world where the stories take place instead of limiting themselves to the school which is a good thing, they also handled their Twilight counterpart better than the show.

I find it strange personally. Equestria Girls is designed for older girls who are close to hitting puberty, starting to become interested in boys and what highschool might be like. MLP is more targeting the love of cute pet-like things considering how brushables are the most popular among young girls of the toyline. Pinkie Pie in a childish tutu outfit doesn't feel like it would spark an interest in those older girls who would probably just find it lame.

The Equestria Girl series needs to:
-Downplay the high school setting in favor of getting out more and exploring the city
-Introduce skills, hobbies, or character traits that makes the main characters distinct from their Equestrian counterparts
-Have more solo focus episodes dedicated to developing those traits
-Provide plenty of opportunities for the girls to use, develop, and grow their powers instead of letting them fall to the wayside

Sadly, hasbro doesn't look to see equestria girls as anything more than a cheap cash grab, not a brand they're interested in actually developing as a quality product.

Look at the Summertime shorts for example; completely phoned in, generic "high school" stuff with no soul-- and people are STILL buying their merchandise just as much as before. they have no incentive to make a good product when the kids will just buy the stuff no matter what they shit out.

As such, don't expect much from the youtube series-- that alone screams "phoned in".

Of the Summertime Shorts, the music videos have definitely been he best part, but those are still handled by DHX. Particularly Monday Blues with Mad Twience a bit below it. The most recent Get the Show on the Road was pretty trash, though.

The Shorts themselves have ranged from light chuckle to groan-worthy, I hate how cheap a lot of them feel, like in the dance off short where the CMC became mute.

Boulder's different animation style doesn't really bother me. Feels off after seeing so much DHX, but it's mostly just different, not bad. They use a lot more smear effects for rapid motion, which feels pretty old school. My only major complaint is that their animation has less bounce than DHX's. Their movements are sometimes snappier, or smoother, but they have a lot less of motions changing speed as they start/end, which makes a lot of the motion feel more cartoonish.

I wonder if the girls will ever have enough outfit rigs made that they can just start wearing different outfits each ep?
