What is the actual story with hating Cathy? I remember some people used to think she was obnoxious at cons a few years back but every time I heard her speak she seemed to be one of the few VAs who actually gave a shit about the characters she voiced and actually you know, tried to ACT instead of just doing silly voices.

In college I was in a class about the show don't ask why and Cathy agreed to be interviewed via skype one day. she was pretty chill and talked about how she believed that the internet was a driving force behind people being closer together as a community. she obviously wanted to have a discussion about it, but everyone was too starstruck to say anything, so she make a spike joke and continued with the call for a bit more. I'm sorry, cathy. you deserved better ;_;

students can teach a full blown course with approval from the administration. so there's classes about pokemon, wine tasting, lesbo sexuality, and yes, mlp. I took it, believe it or not, because I was desperate for units in order to meet the minimum cap. it was an extremely painful experience 4me. we'd have to write papers about the show and watch episodes in class with the speakers at full blast.

What was the general tone of the class itself in regards to the 4chan origins of the fandom? Did the lecturer seem open to it or like one of those people who despises the site? Did the subject of clopping come up and what was the attitude of the class?

the general attitude towards 4chan was passive. it was given a small mention alongside tumblr, ponychan, and some other sites so I don't think there were many horsefuckers there. clopping never came up. the majority of the people there were pretty normal, but to the surprise of no one there were definitely a few weirdos, including one who never showered and another with piercings galore who I couldn't tell if they were a guy or girl
