I heard about the fad of MLP and decided to look into it. I searched for youtube videos and found MAS (the positive series); I originally thought it was an abridged series of the actual show so I wouldn't have to sit through a whole children's show. Of course, I quickly realized it wasn't, but became enamored of it as it was. I decided to watch MLP solely for the sake of better understanding MAS.

I came by around a year ago for curiosities sake. Enjoyed the art, enjoyed the fanfics more. Started watching the show soon after.

Saw the "Death Battle" with Pinkie and Deadpool, was more interested in the clips from the show then anything else. Gave it a try, ended up watching season 1-6 in a two week span.

Watched some random pony videos on youtube. Watched apples.mov. Got on the ride shortly after season 2. Binge watched the show for a week and got up to date for the season 3 hiatus. Been watching the show religously ever since.

This is all personal opinion so take it with a grain of salt, please excuse any blatant newfaggotry:

Season 1:
This pretty much set up the basis for each character and character arc. Whether or not they were able to foresee the show going for as long as it has I'm unsure. But yeah.
>Rainbow Dash wants to be a wonderbolt and while may come off as arrogant, has an obvious soft side and fears rejection.
>Rarity is all about fashion and bringing beauty to the world, as well as seeking the acceptance of those she thinks highly of.
>Applejack is a family pone who wishes to maintain her farm and continue the family legacy.
>Pinkie is the comic relief and wants only to make others feel welcome and happy. (Even though this is contradicted with the Introduction of Zecora.)

Season 1 did a good job of establishing the foundations for these characters and how they all would come together in the face of great adversity.

That's just my two cents on season one, I could be horribly wrong in my interpretation but that's just the vibe I got off it. If you didn't want me to go that in depth then I apologize for the wall of text, but yeah despite the negativity surrounding the later seasons I still enjoy watching, though I haven't been able to watch any of seven yet.

They couldn't. They didn't even know if Season 2 was going to be a thing.
Anyways, for the most part, I agree with your opinions of the main characters' drive in Season 1, with one exception.

Pinkie's characterization is all over the place in Season 1. She goes from being a warm, happy moral support, to a paranoid xenophobe, to an inexplicably conscientious viewer-insert, to an oblivious tart. Watching Season 1 for the first time, I felt like Pinkie was written without having much of a consensus on her role or personality. Then I watched Party of One, which changed my opinion to be that Pinkie was a character that was utilized to provide a foil (usually comedic) to most every character she interacted with, while also doing so in a way which brought a ton of energy to the plot/scene that otherwise might not be there if it relied on the more rigid/rational and defined characters to do so.

I was a young impressionable freshman in college when horses started popping up everywhere on 4chan in late 2010. Wrote it off as the shitposting flavor of the month. Since I was in college and had a stable group of friends I kinda quit fucking around the internet for most of 2011 until I grew tired of normalfagging and a new friend I made began pressuring me to seriously check out cartoon horse program. Took several months before convincing me to watch the new episode premiere that next morning in early 2012 with him. Sure enough The Last Roundup aired and together we watched the flames unfold across the internet that afternoon. I learned this shit was serious business and my interest had finally been piqued. We watched the rest of the series that day and I was never the same since. My only wish I was that I was a little more open to the idea back when the train first got rolling. Seems like those times were fast and unique compared to what came later. Though 2012 was still a good year to the fandom.

Something similar with my case. First off, I was already a fan of HotDiggedyDemon's animation since Jerry series. He uploaded PONY.MOV but i didn't watched it because of pony stigma. Then, in October 2013, a virtual friend who is a brony insisted me to watch the series, I accepted after a lot of shit and a bet on March 2014. I watched the 3 seasons dubbed in LatAm Spanish by then (and some of the S4 episodes) in 4 days, instantly got hooked and finally saw PONY.MOV, after which I sealed my fate and fell into the ride.

Game devs started using MLP avatars on the game's forums.

I originally dismissed ponies as "gay shit lol" when I first saw them spread online. Fast forward to late 2016, I got into a habit of sometimes watching cartoons with my kid brother. One slow day, I noticed MLP was still airing after all these years. By then I had watched Gravity Falls with my brother, and was willing to give more cartoons a shot. Out of curiosity, I decided to watch an episode of MLP, despite being aware of the immense amount of autism associated with bronies. The rest is history.

It took me the entire episode to piece it together, but once I had seen that he was played by DeLancie, I flipped my shit because I realized it was literally just Q, but a draconequus or whatever. It was fun. I remember the /co/ threads that discussed it. Great times.
