And pink is light red. Is pink red?

Lightness changes what we call a color. Starlight is pink.

If that's "purple," then she's the same color as Twilight. Personality-wise, she is opposite from Twilight is almost every way. To say she's the same color as Twilight contributes to retards thinking she's a Twilight clone.

Can everyone stop fighting please? Starlight's coat doesn't have to be pink OR purple, it can be both. There are no solid definitions for when one color stops and another starts.

In this color system, (yeah I still use MS Paint, fite me,) pure magenta is 200, and purple is 180. Starlight is pretty much right in the middle of the two, slightly inclined to purple but since it's such a light shade it appears pink.

She's pink AND purple. Please don't argue anymore.
>>
>>30768238
Next you're going to tell me Twilight doesn't dye her hair.
>>
>>30768017
Yeah Twi's mane has always been a dark navy blue. It isn't purple at all.

>>30768233
>Notice that pink is not even on that spectrum because pure pink is light red.

Not necessarily. Usually when people say pink they mean light read, but "pink" can very easily be used to describe magenta. Y'know, like the pink stripe in Celestia's mane, which isn't red at all.

Things like Barbie doll accessories are called pink, and it's not wrong to call them that, but they're usually magenta and not light red. Pink describes both.

While were on the point of autism.

Isn't it funny how Celestia actually is a little bit pink and Rarity is a little bit blue?

If there is it might be Shining Armor. I imagine that's why his sclera are tinted blue.

I never noticed Rarity was slightly blue. I did notice that Sweetie Belle is a slightly brighter white then her, presumably because she's young and a little purer. Nice character design. detail

Sweetie belle is actually a tad darker, she's just hue-shifted to pink, probably to match her hair, so she looks a little lighter. She's just a warmer color tone.

>>30768371
Hexedecimal values are not semantics. She has grey in her color. You can see right there in the pic the difference from #FFFFFF, it is visible.

Whilst we're being autistic, I don't like that there's a cyan/yellow/magenta trio going on in the show.

Luna's eyes and magic aura are cyan. Twi and Celly's magical auras are magenta and yellow. It's a nice way to do color harmony.

There's also a second trio that works with eye color. Luna's cyan again, Celly has magenta eyes, and I think Discord represents the color yellow. Both his hands (which is where he casts magic from,) are yellow, as are his sclera, and his grey head is slightly tinted yellow. Plus when he says, "Oh Applejack, don't lie to me!" and uses Unicorn-esque telekinesis on her, we see that the glow of his magical aura is yellow.

I don't think it's a coincidence either that he's friends with a yellow pony, Fluttershy. I think Lauren planned the two's friendship in advance. Of course the pony who has a special talent for animals and a fear of dragons, is going to end up having some dynamic with a dragon-shaped chimera. Discord represents what she loves most and also what she is most afraid of.

And it makes sense that Fluttershy was the only one who wasn't fooled by Discord in the labyrinth; it foreshadows that she's the only one who understands and can tolerate him.
>>
>>30768455
Sorry I meant, "I like how...."
>>
>>30768311
Exactly. Calling Starlight purple is like calling Celestia pink.

Make heliotrope light enough, and it becomes pink.
>>
>>30768410

>Hexedecimal values are not semantics.

Its technical nonsense. We read it as "white" and that's all that matters to our brains. Only art-fags care about getting colors right for the most part. Even then that's a bit too stiffling. As long as you pick colors that make your local colors look right then it doesn't matter. "Red blue yellow" are just labels we give the colors. You can look at an object in shadow and tell its local color because the way our brains operate. A character like Sweetie Belle would look drastically different in shadow or even in an over-cast setting and we would still read her coat color as "white". Then it largely depends on the colors around her. "White" is never "white" but that's how our brains interpret it so that's the label we can stick on it for simplification.

Very rarely does FIM show ponies in an interesting lighting setting so we always see these default colors.

At any rate the mane 6 were given these unique colors for recognizabilty. But that doesn't do any good for the color-blind. So they're given very unique silhouettes so that we can recognize these characters without their color. in a sense it doesn't matter what color you give these characters because their design and silhouette are strong. Its semantics because their designs are strong anyway. If you're an art-fag you can use whatever colors you want as long as the light and shadows make sense and the design is strong.

This is why you fail n life. Embrace your inner nerd, it will guide you.

Also I'm just gonna ship in that while something is still "white" even if it's tinted another color, that tint is still notable because it's an intentional design choice.
>>
>>30768578
>Also I'm just gonna ship in that while something is still "white" even if it's tinted another color, that tint is still notable because it's an intentional design choice.

Its easier to label something as "white" for simplicity. Not everyone has an eyedropper on hand. Unless you can find a way to color pick irl. From there its a matter of "warm white," "cool white," "white in shadow," and whatever light is reflecting off of the white.
