I'm a vet and only wear stealth shirts, but it's not because of shame. I've just always hated shirts with characters and logos on them. I associate them with little kid clothes. Same for band shirts. I'm sure they just think, "I like X, X is on this shirt, so I'll wear it," or that it lets other people know they like it. But when I see it, I think, "I don't give a shit. Dress yourself without turning your body into a billboard you unfashionable fuck."

That said, there's a time and place for them, like wear a Pinkie shirt at home or Bronycon, or a Depeche Mode shirt at 80's dance night. But put some effort into your daily attire outside of just dressing in your fandom.

The way you view everything you do is just as important as the way other people view it

If there was no downside to wearing merch in public, I'm sure people would do so. However, because other people only act in their own knowledge, and even the nicest of them would probably sense that there was something a bit 'off' about a grown ass man having such an interest in a cartoon for little girls.

Another huge point is that it's not in the culture of many peoples to be 'showy'. Doing so is considered 'improper' or 'impolite'. I find t-shirts with writing on them to be annoying because I think, "Why do you need to broadcast that? What does that say about you, and why couldn't you just tell me that? I'm not interested in that."

And that, ultimately, is the final and only reason you should need to not wear pony merch. People don't care. Not 'no. one. cares.' as you so aptly memed to imply that nobody will mind, but people don't care and will be irritated that they had to confronted by whatever you're doing. Graphic tees, even at their best, are still kind of dumpy. Bonus points for the low quality plastic prints a lot of pony merch is and not like silk screening.

The only pony thing I have with me in public is pic related, keychain for my work keys. Only need em if I'm closing or opening, in which case I'm at work alone, so no one will see them. It's nice to always have the waifu nearby.
