I don't know if it's the best, but it's definitely up there.

Hard to say. It's really cliche, but it's still so sweet and heartwarming. However, I don't know if it would have been so effective of we hadn't been waiting on it for almost 7 years. If this was a season 1 episode, would it have been as powerful?

It's definitely the ultimate proof of how FiM has remained a quality cartoon even after 7 years, even with the occasional dud here and there. Very, VERY few shows have achieved this, really

In my opinion, yes. It was consistently good throughout rather than having one or two big moments, or having 5 songs in it. It added backstory in places we didn't even expect, like Mrs Cake. The dialogue was sweet. It didn't have big meme faces or gags. It utilised old characters as well as introducing new ones without it being too jarring.

It did all the little details right.

Thats part of what makes it great, there's a bunch of little characterisation moments leading up to this episode that help deliver the emotional pay off.
Hell, it started all the way back in episode one when AJ introduces most of the family tree but Ma-pple and Pa-pple are noticably absent.

It rates extremely high on the list for me, but that's largely because the whole "hearing stories about your dead parent(s) from people who knew them" part hit me in a very personal place.


My dad committed suicide when I was a year old. I didn't know anything about him except that he was dead and I looked like him until I was well into my teens because nobody wanted to talk about him.

I don't know how to feel about this.

If this episode idea wasn't from Hasbro's demands like 100th episode, I'd lose every respect as a creator for whoever came up with this episode idea.
I just don't want to believe this is what Faust and original writers wanted to tell through Apple parents being separated from other family members.

I feel like this is bait, but i'll bite.
Why do you think this episode is a hasbro mandated thing? Apple parents being dead or at least assumed as such has been around for years.
First episode had a bunch of apples minus parents.
Episode 4 had AJ working the farm completely on her own after big mac got injured, and she told twilight that most of the apple clan only came for the sun celebration.
It makes zero sense for their parents to simply be out of town based on these two episodes alone.

They handled a sensitive issue maturely and respectfully, and this is a hell of a lot better in my opinion than the apple parents simply being absent all these years as that would just raise a whole host of other questions.

I think the nicest thing about this episode is that the song in the end credits was the instrumental from the feature song, and not the usual extension of the main theme that only ever serves to ruin the mood.

They should do that more often.
