I don't think that will be some sort of "endgame" in their relationship. If authors wanted to make of them couple it would happend a lot earlier.
But anyway their friendship is a lot more stronger then any love interest.

I think the ship developed too much and is too popular to just remain as frinedship.

Either S8 or S9 will have a big even episode (maybe episode 200th?) that will be a focus on their relationship developing into a romance.

So far we never had an episode message that "it is okay to fall for your best friends, and that you will still remain friends forever even after you grow as romantic". Which will be either told with FlutterCord or Starburst.
