Seems like they're repeating the same establishment from season 1 episode 1. You realise these shows have 3-4 seasons written in advance, right? The movie would have been written about the same time that those seasons were written, hence why Glimglam and Trixie are friends and so on.

Scripts are pre-written way in advance of actual planning and pre-production. I wouldn't be shocked if the movie concept was written back at the end of season 3 but they held back to see where the post Season 3 slump left them and instead went with EQG to see if they could push something new for cheap.

Not that the movie should cost much since it's made in fucking Toonboom and using the normal actors but I'm sure it'll be some ridiculous budget.

To hook up both the old audience and new audience with the story. Show them something mysterious nad related to canon.

Start the movie with a book opening like in first episode. Start the first scene with young Luna and Celestia finding Equestria with Starswirl.

Create a plotline that would suprise the old fans and at the same time give a basic history of the universe and by also setting up a villain that was already alive when Equestria was being formed.

Not just go the easy way make entire adventure as a big filler that happen outside of Equestria only because they will never have to mention it anymore in the series, None of the shipping matter, none of the friendships matter, because those characters wil never appear again.
Meghan could have used the movie to retell some very important story revolving the lore of Equestria, like how first Alicorns were made. But she just given up to shitstains like Ballarini and other Amy Pascals and turn it into brainless generic hero quest adventure. Fucking Moana meets Little Marmaid

I'm not enjoying how their head moves. It doesn't look right. Something about how they rotate and stretch looks like they didn't bother to animate them properly and instead tried a flash trick with rigs and artificially editing the animation so it looks different.

I can appreciate the subtle things like the poners not all timing up perfectly but there's just something off like they tried to apply a trick that'd work on Flash but not Toonboom.

I'm sure someone who knows animation slightly like Greg could comment on what it is but there's definitely an uncanny valley thing going on.

I have been pointing this out since the first promo artwork and it seems like most people don't even notice or don't care. That's not how reflections work, or rather: soft, translucent reflections are what you see on a dry matte surface, so it makes them look like they have dead, creepy eyes. The shines in the main show are actually more realistic since they have hard edges and are solid white, which is what you actually see if you take a closeup of someone's eye for example and can see the sun reflected in it.
