I've heard horror stories and honestly stories that aren't so bad. I honestly think it depends on your story and the publisher.

I think the quality of creative control goes down rapidly the more sex you have in your story, because boy I've seen some lewd ass stories that came off like they were twilight fanfictions except they actually put some work into making the vampires and werewolves be interesting. (Also aside from the fact that the werewolves could end up sexually linked to each other for life by just smelling each other while the female's in heat, and it kind of got a little mindrapey, it was definitely a better romance than twilight)

You misunderstand, I enjoy what I do. Writing out a funny scenario in a prompt thread or general for shits and giggles is fun, and I have a good time doing it. And even if I spent 30 - 60 minutes writing it out, only to have a single person reply with "yo that's some funny-ass shit", then it's worth it.

I think a lot of it comes down to how you personally view things like time-investment/reward, but I enjoy the writing process and being creative just as much as I enjoy people's responses.

I will admit that on /mlp/ there seems to be a trend where Smut, Feels, and Comedy are the only widely accepted genres, and it's much harder to find an audience for things like Adventure or Horror, but then again that makes total sense to me. Aren't we all here to have a good time?

Best advice ever given to me for writing is if you write it to the best of your ability, and enjoy what you do, chances are someone somewhere will enjoy it as well. Don't underestimate the lurkers on /mlp/. They might not reply to you, but they'll enjoy almost anything as long as it's written well. The golden rule of 4chan is that people that actually post and take part in discussions are a vocal minority; most of the people here come to read, not speak.

That's something I forgot to mention, but it still follows my point that Adventure and Horror are hardER to find audiences for. If you go into a regular /mlp/ thread (whatever that means anymore) and start writing an Adventure/Horror story, you'll have a harder time finding people willing to go along with it than if you were writing straight up comedy, smut, or feels.
At least that's what I've seen, obviously I can only go off my own experiences. CYOA threads are definitely popular, but they tend to stick to themselves, I've not seen them get almost universal appeal the same way comedy/smut/feels greentext does.

Whenever I read through these meta-threads I always see anonymous writefags confessing that they write stories and stress themselves over what they do simply because they want (you)s. Because I've been using 4chan long enough to know that's the way the site works.

There are lurkers in every single thread. The site gets about 20 million people using it a month. It's not hard to imagine that through the sheer volume of people that come to website, even if only 0.1% of those people come to /mlp/ that's still a shitload of people to spread over the 144 threads the board can handle at any given time. So when I say there are always people watching and reading, it comes from a place of confidence. If you can dispute this, then go ahead, but I'm confident that there are people visiting every thread on /mlp/, and reading everything posted.
And perhaps it's a delusion, but I like to think that they're enjoying what they read.
